2012 jeep 2D 6speed 3.73vs3.21

I'm close to purchasing a 2012 sport 2D 6 speed. I'm not sure what gear to get. It seems that all the jeeps on the dealer lots are 3.21. Any thoughts? What's the gas milage difference with the 3.73?

There will be no noticeable difference in gas millage between jeeps equiped with the 3.21's and 3.73's but you will notice when you go to hit the gas pedal that the Jeep equiped with the 3.21's will be noticeably more sluggish.. I wouldn't go anywhere near 3.21's if I could afford a 2012 JK.. In fact that they even put that high of gearing in the JK is a total joke.. I say keep looking till you find one with 3.73's (Rubicon 4.10's).

I have a 2 dr manual with 3.73 on order. Hopefully will come in this week or early next. I'll let you know then, hehe.

I had 3.73 on my 08 jku with manual shift and it rode just fine. My wife has 3.21 in her 2 dr 2012jk manual and it rides just fine.

If you are in doubt I'd say go with the 3.73 gears.

Come to think of it, my wifes 2012 2 door jk with 3.21 and 6 speed manual has more pep to it than my 08jku with 3.73 and 6 speed had. The new engine is a significant upgrade.

This jeep will be a daily driver. I never really did any serious off-roading in my previous jeeps. And I don't expect that to change with this purchase. I test drove a 6 speed 3.21 at the dealer and I expected a little more power with the new engine. But I don't want to step up to the 3.73 and totally ruin the mileage. Thx guys for your help

I'm getting over 20 mpg's with the 3:73's and a 4 door, I think it would be a good choice to go with the 3:73 gears.

Mostly I drive pretty fast and I get around 20.5 with my 3.73s. The lowest average I have gotten was 18.5 and the higest was 22 or 23. Right now after the latest reset 3 days ago im averaging 21.5. I do a good mix of city and highway miles and some nice twisty roads daily. My Jeep is pretty much a commuter with very seldom off road. In hindsight I probably should have gotten 3.21s, hitting like 2800 rpm at 75mph in 6th with 3.73s isnt great. Maybe if they would modify the transmission to have 5th gear be where the current 6th gear is and make the 6th gear higher it would be fine.
