It looks like a Cherokee.... A Cherokee Indian staring in the sun! Look at it! That whole front is just disgusting. I'll probably run one over if I see one on the road. Almost as bad as a Prius.

This thing started life as an Alfa Romeo design and was repurposed into the Cherokee. Course I think it is no replacement for the XJ. Thank god they still have the Wrangler. I hope they don't jack that up next redesign or the Jeep brand will die.

Talking 2014 jeep cherokee

Iafter a serious amount of SERIOUS thought...I have the answer why Chrysler-fiat-ram-dodgealfaromeo.....the company has for the last 5 years over produced the so called JEEP LIBERTY piece of garbage and now have had to rebadge the junk units...Tom Rutherford. I have a new looking 2004 Rubicon...now that's a car(except when the death wobble begins when the tires have about 25-30k mi on 'em

I got the email too and its a straight up embarrassment to announce it as the return of the Cherokee. There isn't anyone high enough up at Chrysler that said "we can't do that, this thing isn't a Cherokee...."

Exactly. I dont care about the fact that it looks aweful i actually like it better than the liberty. My problem with it is the name. Its not a cherokee. But apparently the libery never lost its cherokee name in europe so its not surprising fiat would decide to take this route.

That Cherokee is off putting. I can see myself veering around it at the dealership.

I just read an article the other day that said that exact design was some European crap that got cancelled, so Jeep just used it for the new "Cherokee."

I don't understand what Jeep is doing, that has to be one of the ugliest vehicles on the road. I hope the next generation wranglers won't have the same fate.

That's disappointing... I dig the current grand as like a street driver. But that just looks like they messed with a good design. I just pray the next model of wrangler doesn't follow those footsteps

Reading the press release, mechanically it seems fairly impressive - I mean, no XJ ever came with a rear locker from the factory, so that's something (assuming it's a true locker and not some electronic voodoo with the brakes). The Trailhawk package adds some cool stuff. Too bad it looks horrible, they should push it back a year and completely redesign the front and rear ends.

Ugly and soccer momish. I think the Wrangler is the only decent looking Jeep still standing. My ex has a '97 Cherokee (heavily modded playtoy) and I had a '06 GC prior to my Wrangler, and I really liked both of them. They took me through mud, snow, and ice, without a single issue. These new things don't look like they'd make it a minute off the asphalt. Or on, for that matter. Who'd want to drive those ugly things?!

Sorry guys...the last real Cherokees died in 1983...I do like the xj, but the Cherokee is embedded in my mind in this form. Loved when my Uncle had one like this. [IMG][/IMG]

This. I can tell you for a fact these will be capable vehicles. I think it's ugly as sin but the Trailhawk version us rumored to do very well in the off-roading department. Better than the Liberty and I'm just speculating but it may end up being the 2nd best off-roader behind the obvious #1.

I just watched the release video on the jeep website. The trail hawk is no joke for a mid size SUV (compared to its competition). The meatier tires and blacked out rims and tow hooks actually add a bit of aggression to it. 1 inch life with 3 different drive options with a rear locking differential. I think it will grow on me. It certainly doesn't look anything like the original, but like I read in some other articles they Cherokees of the past are overly romanticized and this will likely go above and beyond in capabilities and quality.

Absolutely disgusting. I learned how to drive on a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. Loved it although it died about 1 month later. Refuse to acknowledge this new wannabe jeep as the Cherokee

Here's a link to the press release (at the end of the main article):

2014 Jeep Cherokee flaunts its new contemporary curves

It's too long to reasonably repost here.

I think God killed many kittens today to punish mankind for this atrocity.

i guess i'm the odd man out on this one. The trailhawk version is pretty much exactly what i am looking for, and i actually like the look of the red and black one.

I dont own a jeep yet, been doing the research and just waiting to see what was coming. I need a commuter during the week, a fire road runner on the weekend, and a road trip machine a couple of times a year to the San Juan mountains in colorado to do the mountain passes (alpine loop, black bear, ophir etc maybe a quick trip over to moab to do the white rim trail), all stuff i did on my dirtbike but i am getting to old to bounce of the ground these days.

The trailhawk will do all that i want. dont need the overkill of the wrangler, or the size of the GC, and i'll get decent mileage for 80% of the driving i will be doing (commuting).

I think its perfect for someone who doesnt need the capabilities of a wrangler, but needs/wants more than the typical SUV available today.

Amen to that! It is a vehicle that will serve its purpose to those who buy it. There's no point in people complaining about it if they have no intent on buying one or ever would. Most people that don't like it wouldn't stray far from a wrangler to begin with.

I'd buy one.... If it resembled the old Cherokee in any way other than have the same amount of tires. It looks like an old Isuzu vehicross. Yuck.

Anyone notice in the latest images they darkened the middle headlights in an attempt to minimize the hideous front end? Still reminds me of a Pontiac Aztek from the front. The rear is bad too.....Subaru B9 Tribeca knock off bad. This thing is definitely not worthy of the Cherokee name. We needed a real XJ successor and instead this thing further damages the image of Jeep.

The lower trim levels are hideous. The Trailhawk though isn't terrible at all relative to other SUVs IMO. The black fender and trim pieces keep it from looking like a blob. And in their offroad video heard the skid plate scrape once. Music.

I'm in the clear minority, but I don't hate it. The lower trim levels aren't great but the Trailhawk looks pretty sweet. I have no intention of replacing my TJ with one but I can see the appeal for some people. Check out the video at this link:

Video: 2014 Jeep Cherokee TrailHawk can still Tackle Serious Off-Road | TFLCar.com: Automotive News, Views and ReviewsThe Fast Lane Car

It certainly has way more off road capability than the other crap it's designed to compete with (Escape, CR-V, RAV4, etc.).

Let's not forget that Chrysler, parent company of Jeep, is principally owned by majority shareholder Fiat. They might of had some say in the design. Just sayin'...
