Thumbs down 2WD Wranglers!?!?!?!

What in the name God/Christ/Mary/Joseph/Allah/Morgan Freeman/Jewish guy was Chrysler thinking when they decided to make 2wd wranglers?!?!?

Whats the point of a Wrangler without 4wd? I'm surprised I haven't seen videos on youtube of some idiot who got his new Wrangler stuck in 2 inches of muddy water, with the description saying "Jeeps suck, watch a lowered H2 go through that same puddle!"

Was anyone else aware of the unacceptable blasphemy??

I pray to the Earth Mother that none of you own one of these. And may the Froad King strike down the ones who are responsible for this with a zombie apocalypse so that only the true Jeepers can ride with him in paradise.

i had a similar reaction when i found out they made the first ever 2 wd wranglers when the Just Kidding came out.

what makes me mad is the poor sucker that knows nothing and buys one, and then finds out what he has.

ya i just found out that they had them a few days ago, and i had the same reaction. it was bad enough that they had 2wd liberty's and commander, and the AWD Compass and Patriot. a 2WD wrangler? if you want a convertible w/ a lack of storage space then get a damn miata!!! and as for the "apocalypse" thing, i think that is in the process of happening..... thus far the idiots that ran the company into the ground are noe getting their bail out. this whole automaker crisis is b/c God is a Jeep guy and he is pissed that chrysler had the cajones to create such an abomination!!!!!

Apparantly their intent is to further degrade the brand image... as if the Compass wasn't already enough.

I feel your pain, but the recent 2wd wranglers weren't the first Jeeps that were 2wd. Back in the 60's, 70's and 80's AM General made those DJ-5 "Postal Jeeps" and they were 2wd. Hey, if ANYONE need's 4wd, it's the mail man (especially back east) !

What's worse than a 2wd Wrangler? How about a Jeep called the DJ-5 that is made by the company that brought you the Hummer?

You have to understand that the automakers are in the business of selling vehicles. They know just as we do that there are a bundle of Wranglers (and other 4X4's) out there that will never see anything but pavement and parking lots. The vehicle looks great and everyone wants to go topless, so let's by a Jeep. You don't need 4wd for the rain.

How many JK's are really going to be climbing over rocks and through mud holes during their first year or two even with 4wd? Those that do will be the exception and not the norm.

Haha.

I was actually at the dealership getting service done that I decided to walk around.

I was an 08 Wrangler that looked sick. I loved it and I looked at the price and it was very reasonable. I was like, "hmm, is it time to trade in?" When all of a sudden I look more closely at the sticker and it said 2WD. I actually said aloud: "What the F@#$?"

And I walked away and I loved my TJ even more.

Yea, hehe. That would suck. My friend bought a 2WD Tundra to wheel with us. After our first trail ride, she got stuck and had to get towed out. She was in deep doo doo.

Now she has 5 years of payments and a truck she hates; OUCH.. She's tried to trade up but her truck is ridiculously upside down. The kicker: Her truck is lifted with 33 MT/Rs and it's a 2WD.

WTF? My other friend has a Tacoma lifted with 31s and he too is 2WD. What's the deal man?

ccain is right, but it goes back even farther to the original Willys Overland Corporation! That's right, the folks who won the contract to make 'Jeeps' for ww2 made the first 2wd ones in the 50's!

The DJ3A "Dispatcher" was introduced in 1955 with around 2,500 made the first year. They were sold as delivery vehicles and runabouts. They were basically a CJ3A body with a 2wd drivetrain.

Even more disturbing for some of you relatively new to the Jeep world will be the following pic of the "Gala Surrey" 2wd Jeep!

These were used on resorts for tourists as runabout vehicles. Elvis drove one in "Blue Hawaii." They are very collectible today if you can even find one!

I guess we should all be happy that the new 2wd JK's don't come in pink!

Exactly what I meant about the idiots on YouTube, they get one for cheap, go out and then when it fails say "Jeeps suck!"

I know Jeep has had a history of 2WD vehicles but the Wrangler is sacred. Making a 2WD Wrangler is like owning a FWD Subaru, or an unsafe Volvo, or a slow Ferrari!

Does this mean there is a Wrangler with... I feel like I'm going to puke by saying this... Independent front suspension??

Regardless, Brand Image is extremely important and Jeep needs the "Tread Wisely" IMO.

There was also 2wd YJ's and TJ's produced for postal service needs. You could special order it from the dealer as a 2wd with proof of being a postal driver. I only know this because my aunt had a 98 TJ 2wd as her postal truck.

Hmm, why would postal workers of all people prefer 2wd? Mileage maybe? Does that mean that the RHD Wranglers I occasionally see are likely 2wd? This blows my mind. Until now, I have scoffed at people who ask if my Jeep is 4wd.

this is news to me. of coarse jeep, willys and so on made/makes 2 wd vehicles. but standard equipment on every wrangler ever made untill j/k was 4x4.

now listen to that carefully, 4wd has been standard equipment on every wrangler till now. i've never heard of special ordering a 2 wd wrangler, i bet the dealer had to convert them possibly. and postal jeeps are not wranglers either.

But does this mean they have independent front suspension? Unless they took it off of another vehicle, you would think it would be too expensive for it even to be worth it for Chrysler to design a new IFS system just for the small amount of people who will even buy a 2wd wrangler.
