4x4 not engaging! Help!

I took my Jeep out the other day in the mud, nothing crazy or hard. I had it in 4WD and when I got off the dirt road I put it back into 2WD. The light on the dash was on so I'm assuming it was working fine when I put it back to 2WD. Today I went back out and I went to put it into 4WD and the sensor on the dash didn't light up, besides that I don't really know how to tell if it's in it or not. It doesn't make any weird noises when I try and change it. This is my first jeep and I just bought it about 2 months ago so I'm no mechanic on it. I did pop the hood to see if I saw any cables broken or anything because I don't know what I'm looking for. I saw a few cables in the same area that were not connected to anything, I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I took pics of them because I don't know what they are..

Nothing in those pictures has anything to do with 4WD. Get under it and check the linkage to the TC.

My dash light hasn't lit up in I don't know how long, but still goes into 4wheel drive.
