9 hours 1 way in a LJ

Just got back from OBX, NC (Duck) for family vacation - took the 2005 LJ, Wife, 12 y/old daughter and her friend. Towed a 4x6' trailer for the luggage, coolers, tools, spare Jeep parts (thankfully not needed). I live in central PA, so it was about 9 hours of driving time.

Observations: No cruise control in a 6-speed Wrangler makes your right leg hurt after about 1/2 hour. Then you quit feeling anything, and its ok after that. Shoes off, wedge the foot just right.....

I Love owning and driving a Wrangler! Almost every Jeeper waves, and smiles back- -didn't matter where I was, they waved. (except the soccer mom JK owners...they just don't know I suppose?) Met a convoy of 5 muddy Jeepers heading the other way in a small town on route 17 in Virginia....man, I wanted to turn around an follow them to the fun!

Wrangers like the beach and dune sand. Love the torque of the straight six, just push the throttle, and it powers through the bog with no wheel spin to get you in trouble. Bummed I didn't get in on the jeep trail ride, talked to a couple at the gas station refilling tires of their JK, showing me their video of the water hole they were playing in.

Running Topless is awesome- -even non Jeepers wave- -deep down, THEY WANT ONE!

Glad that you had fun! That's what it's all about. Every winter my friends and I all meet up in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, and I take the jeep everytime. I always ride up with my buddy and switch off drivers. Nothing I like better than a good road trip in a good vehicle making good conversation! Keep on enjoying it!

I'm in south-central PA, and have an 05 LJ with 33s. I have cruise, but never use it.
I can feather the gas to increase speed or downshift to keep rpms where they belong... the cruise just wants to feed more gas than necessary.

I routinely drive 3 hours at a time, and every spring and fall make a trip of 4+ hours each way. Since I raised my front seats 1.5" I never have any problem with my right leg/accelerator position. Have you raised your seats?

BTW, I love the Duck area. Lots of good restaurants. The Paper Canoe was one of my favorites last trip, or the North Banks Restaurant & Raw Bar up in Corolla.

I hope to make it up to OBX in the future. I haven't been since I was a kid. We used an International Harvester Scout 1975 back then. Hope to use the 2006 LJ the next time.
Do you have any pics?

Sounds like a good time, except for the driving 6 speed part so far. I guess you just have to get used to it.

I recently finished up the spring outage season and it was brutal. I drove from west Arkansas to south Maryland and back then a few weeks later west AR to upstate NY and back. About 1300 miles one direction. I feel your pain and numbness haha

I've been cross-country (east coast-west coast vice versa) a couple times in my jeep. Cant't say it was the most comfortable, but it was bearable. The LJ sounds a lot nicer for lengthy drives
