An online friend of mine is evidentally having transmission problems in his 1994 Cherokee Laredo. Says he has had the automatic tranny rebuilt 3 times, each only going about 30K before imploding.
The trans is actually a 42re.
Four speed auto.
Two is the torque rating.
R for rear wheel drive (unless there is a transfer case)
Electric controlled shifting.
Chrysler used this trans in about everything, so I know it's not a bad design.
The transfer case actually bolts directly to the rear of the trans where the tail shaft should be.
That's why I thought a bad bearing in the transfer case might be throwing the trans out of balance.
The first time I had the trans rebuilt, it spun the rear bearing so badly that I had to replace the case!
I told him I would post his dilema here and see if this might be a common problem....any ideas??
