94 Jeep I need help

94 Wrangler was backfiring and now will turn over but wont start what is a good troubleshooting procedure

How did the problem come on? did it all of a sudden start doing this or is it a result of something?

Backfire is a result of a lean fuel condition or firing at the wrong time because of either a bad cap/rotor, crank sensor or other things... Let us know what led up to this though before you just start replacing things.

The jeep has been sitting at my uncles who i am buying it from and he might have drove it once a year for at least the past 3-5 years

he went to drive it and it started backfiring and once he parked it it hasnt cranked we thought it might be battery but we put a new one in and still nothing

hmmm... if it ran ok when he parked it, check for;

bad gas (smells like laquer)

water in the gas (pretty common even after one year of sitting) a bottle of drygas usually helps w/this

make sure no wires were eatin' by rodents

...and change all your spark plugs, dist. cap and rotor. spark plugs most defanitely get out of there!!!
