A dumb question

I'm new to jeeps and the jeep life and I just don't know what I have so here it is what jeep do I have how do I know weather it's a tj,yj, are they characters in the VIN ? I mean no disrespect I just don't know (It's an 2004 sahara) if that helps

The body codes are YEAR specific. Yours is a TJ (1997 to 2006)
YJ ( 1987 to 1995)
JK ( 2007 to current)

Under the section titles on the forum is a small discription on what that section is for and what years apply.

actually no-there were some Jeeps sold in '96 of course but none built that year-was told they were selling off '95s in '96.

Those dates are "model" years, not build years. The '97 model year was introduced and sold in 1996.
