I'm still currently trying to find what I want in a jeep. So far I'm pretty much descided on a Wrangler Sport, and descided NOT to spend the money on a Rubicon.
From what I understand, and please tell me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the Jeep Wrangler's rear diff can be replaced by an after market locker. So if I do start having problems, then perhaps I could use that option. This is because the only things in the Rubicon that had me considering it, was the front and rear lockers.
So now, I'm wondering. Should I got Unlimited? I really like the idea of having the extra cargo space. I looked at a Non-Unlimited Wrangler and didn't like the cargo space it had. This brings me to my question. How much am I sacraficing in performance, and manuverability to get the extra cargo space by getting the unlimited. It seems that the longer wheelbase would make turning around on trails more challangeing.
So do you guys have the Wrangler or the Wrangler Unlimited, and what factors did you consider, to make your choice?
My unlimited takes it like a champ. Some may knock it, but those that watched her yesterday, watched her take the trails where others got stuck. I love ALL JEEPS. Get what works for u, bt mods and handling they all can hit the trails and holes. Thats the fun part...building it and testing that build. Just my thoughts anyway.
I'm just afraid I'll get stuck because I chose to NOT get the Rubicon.
Nothin some bumpers, a hatchet and a winch can't fix. I've seen a lot of folks spring for the latest greatest, full package, spend a lot of money and then...mods void warrenties, the $$ spent becomes a deterrence. ..next thing u know, u don't wanna take it out. I bought a used 09 JK Unlimited X. No bells and whistles. So I had the money for a few upgrades and recovery items. This not only allows me to go out for an awsome time, but in buying the mods to hit the trails and mud, it seems useless if I don't. Figure out what u wanna do with it, what u wanna modify and choose from there. I knew I wanted a build and trails, mud and fun. I also knew this was my daily driver, so I needed the space since I have kids, jeepers in training. And I knew I wanted her to be mine, my build, my personality. So I picked this one. Don't stress too much, the truth is u have to get what will be best for u. Have u test driven them to feel the differences? That helped me a lot. I tested everything, from brand new to used, each model...this girl is the one I fell in love with.
Both are great choices and itbis ultimately comes down to what you likeband what you will use it for. I chose the TJ and I run a hitch rack for extra cargo space. The rubicon is nice because it comes with lockers and those are a fairly expensive mod to do later on.
