I am a first time Wrangler owner as of February. I have a 2012 Wrangler 2dr in Orange Crush and I love it! I purchased it with the hard top because it was winter still at the time. I couldn't afford to get the soft top with it... however now I am running into the big question for the summer. I have the top off right now but it is due to rain in a couple of days. I really don't want to have the hassle of taking the hard top on and off all summer. I have looked and the cheapest soft top (with hardware) that I could find was 650.00. I just don't have that much money currently. The most I am able to go is 350, though less is always better. Do any of you have any suggestions of other options that I can look into for this summer? Of course I plan to eventually get the soft top. I wish I had known more about needing the hardware for them before. I thought the 330.00 soft top I saw was a steal... haha, no hardware though so it makes sense now.
Any Jeep or 4x4 shops in the area? One might have a soft top with hardware used laying around with minor damage. For now you could buy the bikini top and a quick cover as mentioned above.
I appreciate all the advice guys! I am looking into the Emergency Top currently. About 150.00 and would be good for when Im parked at work for the day. We shall see...
Is it my imagination or what???? People can rustle up 10s of thousands of $$$$$ to BUY a Jeep... but cannot scratch together $650 for a soft top.... the world is going NUCKING FUTS......

Well if you're like me the jeep set you back enough, and just paying your monthly car payment on it is tough enough. 650 all at once on top of all the other bills is a lot to pony up sometimes...
My advice would be a rampage frameless or checking craigslist/local auto recycler for a used one.
Having had a YJ with a hard top and bikini top, and still having the TJ that I run the 3 piece combo in the summer that came with a soft top and that I now run a half top in the winter, and having purchased the JK in Dec with soft top...I would sell the Hard top for funds as mentioned before.
I agree that it is nice to have a Hard top like in the winter if in northern climes, but as good as the soft tops are now, on the JK's IMO no hard top is needed. Will get more "use" out of the soft top than the hard top.
Not to start the which is better fued but given the situation this Jeeper is in, may be the best option.
Find someone who wants a hard top and swap.... You can run a soft top all year round, and they are less expensive than hard tops so you should make a little extra in the deal......
I am new to this forum and I am in the same boat: trying to figure out what to do this summer. Bought my Jeep last August (and I traded in an Equinox and a Mazda Miata convertible for it bc3 so I could afford the monthly payments). Since Im single I didnt always have help around to get my hard top back on so I bought a Best Top soft top cuz it was affordable. I HATED it! I was able to put it on and take it off alone but it was very time consuming, the side windows didnt come off and I had to almost remove the whole thing to get the back window off. PLUS, there was no way to take just the front part off. I felt more "free" with my hard top on! So I sent it back. Trying to decide if I should get a bikini top or just a cover for when its in the driveway....
