Aircraft taxi lights?

Anyone bought any of these and mounted them I saw a thread on the a while back but now that I'm getting around to lights I don't remember the sizes and brands. What I do remember is they are extremely bright and cheap on eBay. Also there is a cheaper housing you can buy to set the lights in? Anybody?

What light are you talking about? Landing lights, position lights, cockpit/map lights? I am an aviator, and I am not familiar with the term "taxi lights" (not saying the term is incorrect, it's just one I'm not familiar with). Can you describe what they look like? Clear, white, green, red lenses?

I'm fairly sure he is talking about landing lights, I've seen threads on them but no first hand experience.

A taxi light is on the nose or nose gear of an aircraft used for illuminating just in front of the nose. landing lights provide a wider area of illumination.

A Member recently mentioned landing lights on his wrangler. Search those words and you can probably connect with him.

before I got into jeeps I worked as an aircraft electrician at a specwar heli squadron, we threw away rescue hoist lights left and right. OOPS! they were bright enough to burn the paint if left on pointed at the aircraft, and were great to use for heat during the winter.

another thing to add, aircraft electronics run off of either 3 phase 115 400hz AC or 28VDC and some 15v for misc interior lighting. unless its some sort of cessna it is probably not going to work with your 14v system...

Read up on the specs of a 4509 bulb.

They are 13V (that's fine) 100 watt, cost $9.95.

And are rated for 25 hours.

Better carry spares.

You can only use them off road so I think it will take a while to use them 25 hours off road in the dark!

I have a set waiting to be wired up right now. I'm just too lazy to weld up some brackets. I do believe I saw some bulbs that fit the 4509 housings but last much much longer. I'll try to remember to look for them after work.

25 hours is not long. There are plenty of affordable lights available with the same brightness and beam pattern, with a much greater service life.

Okay haha. You asked so I shared my experience. Not saying you should get them just said I liked them for less than a 30 dollar light
