Alright peeps I need some advice on a good winch (there are so many)

Alright, before everyone goes off and says what we already know (Warn is the best) can anybody give me some real world feed back on some of the others?

I am looking at the Warn M8000 for my YJ. But I've seen Bulldog, Smittybilt, Mile Marker, Ramsey, Rugged Ridge........ that are a couple hundred less. Most of them have a pretty decent warraty.

If anybody has some good/bad experiences they could share I would greatly appreciate it.

Warn is the best on the market and worth the added $$, but I am happy with my superwinch. If you decide to go with something other than warn, make sure to find out what type of solenoid they use. I have had a few winches come through myo shop recently, all with 6 post solenoids. This style of solenoid frequently burns out, and needs to be replaced. The problem is that this style has been discontinued and is damn near impossible to find.

Another option is Ramsey. I have the 9500 Patriot and it's been solid for the past 2 yrs. the pull speed is pretty good but I'm not sure how fast it pulls against the Warn. The install of the winch was pretty easy, and so was the wireless key remote.

I'm happy with smittys xrc8 but I got lifetime warranty through 4wd.com.

I chained to a tree and pulled a 2500 cummins with full bed of mulch up a muddy hill with it.
Less than $300

Hmpf!!!! Sure the others got good warranties.....BUT, what good is the warranty when your wheelin and the winch doesn't work, or breaks......Then the first thing that comes to mind is.....Hmpf, I shoulda got the WARN.

I have the xrc8 and love it so far. Only had it for about a month but the couple times I've used it, it did what I needed it to.

based on my observations, this is a pretty common sentiment among owners of the XRC8.

A winch is one of those things where skimping on the price isn't doing you any favors. If you can't afford a Warn, then keep saving until you can. There are certain accessories on a Jeep where you can cut corners to save a few $$$$, but self-recovery equipment isn't one of them.
