Another Axle and SOA/SUA ?

All right here's another axle question....

Right now i'm in the middle of a a stroker build and axle swap. I was thinking o going 8.8 and spring over with a locker in the rear,and running either 35's or 36's. Then i found a set of axles danna 44 rear set up spring over with the traction bar bracket already on with zj brakes. The only problem is i would need to buy a locker becuase he is keeping the arb that was alrwady in there. The front being HP D30 with an arb and brake upgrade. The only prblem with this is its set p for coilover. Both are 4.88's with 5x4.5.

So the set up would be spring over which would involve setting up the front axle. these are priced at $1300 Shipped to my door from tennesse.

I also found a set of custom built dana 44's set up for a spring under yj. 4.10's locking hubs.posi lock in the rear open in the front All i would need to do is weld on shock tabs. They are complete brakes and everything with a 5x5.5 pattern. he claims he paid 6200 for them and he wants 2000 plus shipping.

the set up here would be SUA with a 4.5 RE well at least the springs. Possibly a 1" BL and 35's or 36's.


My questions for you guys are:
1. Which do you believe is worth it. i dont really plan on keeping it a dd for that long so it will be mostly a trail rig if not completely.

To me i'm starting to think that the SUA set up is better. For these reasons

No or little axle wrap

i wouldnt HAVE to buy a locker to put them in.

and with the 4.5" SUA i would keep a lower COG.

Also i was thinking about cost with the 44/30 combo i am gonna put in another 800 for a locker 300 for a traction bar. Plus the cost of setting up the 30 spring over. Plus i am assuming i'm gonna have to change my steering set up.

the sua axle will be cheaper and easier for you to use. but don't fool yourself, sua is by no means better than soa. less ground clearance, and less flex with stiff springs. if it were me, i'd buy the sua set up axles, and make the soa, not very hard at that point.

i'm assuming you're not ready to make your jeep coil over.

steering is easy to negotiate to do properly.

but you'd still have a nice set up with an sua run like you're saying. but you'll probably end up like so many others, and say, i wish i did soa, and probably do it anyway.

Some axles in your area. not sure if these are still for sale or legit.. but might be worth an email or two. Save some money perhaps... Also look into Grand wagoneer 44's matched set find in most junkyards.

Rear 44 from an MJ, not sure if its sold yet.

gotta be careful on waggy axles, the automatic waggy's had a full time 4 wd, and an offset rear axle, making them useless for us. manual trans waggy has a centered rear diff.

the reasons i narrowed it down to these two is that they were pretty much alreadyset up for my jeep. and how hard is it to do coil over on my jeep if the axle is already set up

its about half the work, but there's a lot of money still left in parts and frame work. still gotta spend a little over a grand probably.
