Another gearing question...

Sorry - I'm sure this has come up before, but I'll ask anyway...

From another thread, I read

"3.73 gears - 3.73 to 1 the driveshaft spins 3.71 times for every one time the wheel spins" (thank you to bobjenkins for that)

My question is there any better/more accurate way to tell?
See, the PO apparently got into the rear and front pumpkins and when putting them back together, removed the tags, and the ration isn't stamped in the cover. The covers aren't leaking, so I don't want to pull them off unless its necessary. I'm really just curious - there doesn't seem to be any problems (yet...)

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

In dog beers, I've only had one.....

put a mark on the drive shaft....lift up the rear of the jeep. spin the read tire 1 time. count how many times the driveshaft rotated.

LOL! Which is the same method described by bobjenkins in the post above. It really is the easiest most accurate way to determine gearing. Otherwise I think you can open the diff and count gear teeth, but I'm not sure about that....
