Antenna question

i have KC lites windshield mount brackets that i installed, problem is that the lights i have are huge and interfer with my radio antenna.

any ideas or has anyone run into this before..

id rather not spend more money on slim lights to combat the problem, are there short antennas on the market that are cheap or can i just chopped mine down.??

any help is appreciated..

thanks.

does anyone use a stubby antenna or have an idea of where to find a suitable one that works/fits on a Jeep TJ

Our antenna rubs on the light, previous owner glued a small patch of rubber where it rubs.
Don't go with a shorter antenna if you can help it, you'll reduce radio reception.

Ditto ^^^^

Most people just bend the antenna to clear the lights.

Do you have the 6" KC lights, the reason I ask is b/c I just ordered a set of the KC 6" daylighters and wondering if I might run into this problem as well.

there actually a brand of Hella lights / they are huge.. not sure what size.. almost as big as my headlights.. cheapo's from Advance Auto Parts.

if your lights are the full size and not slim it will probably rub a bit
i removed my antenna and suprisingly i can still get most of my stations without any noticable difference.

heres some pics of the new mounts that i had welded up and powder coated. only problem with them is had to removed antenna and if i ever get a snorkle i wont be able to use the passengars side mount (or just cut it off)

checked quadratec, these seems to be about the same size as the daylighters..

Additional Question on Lighting

forgot to ask about this.. the instructions state to hook a wire to the 12+volt from high beam.. does this mean that the lights will only function when the high beams are on.. (supposed to scotch lock bare white wire to High beam lead)

i want to be able to turn these lights on without turning on the headlights or the high beams... will i be able to run these in while the lights are off and while the low beams are on.. or does this sound like only while high beams are on..
(or is this typicall to hook to high beam leads due to voltage)
i did find a wiring diagram that states for off road use you can hook the wire to a main lead for the parking lamps, that way anytime the parking lamps are on i can operate them as well.. (will this cause a problem?)

any help is appreciated.

thanks

mods can you put this post in a location that is suitable.....most "builders" dont worry about thier antenna rubbin on their lights....no offense..........but a "builder" would solve the problem and not look to quadratec for an answer

I will look for a better pic but

I take a pair of vise grips to pull the ball off the end use a rag also less scratches

Then cut the antenna down to size

Use a grinder and make the top look like the piece you cut off

Take ball and put back on top then i kinda drop it down on a piece of wood to get the ball to stay back on

I do this to all my vehicles
Better to do it your self then buy a 20 dollar short antenna

maybe you should re-read the posts, i think you maybe didnt understand.

the quadratec remark didnt have anything to do with the antenna issue, it was info on KC daylighters for TooTall, another poster here.

and i never said i was a builder, but since the brackets were Built or fabbed i found it to be a suitable location for the post.

as far as the antenna rubbing on the lights, well it was a bit more than that, i dont want the finish scratched up or the glass to be hit and broken.. least not yet, LOL

i bent mine too, its bent to the same angle as the windshield jam, it actually looks pretty sweet, i put the bend in the antenna about 4" down from the light mnt tab. I used a rag and an adjustable wrench as my leverage.

Keep the antenna on and bend it!

why cut it????

Pull the antenna out and use a dremmel tool to cut a new slot for the nub to fit in and it will relocate your stock antenna to lean back more. Poof problem solved. Thats what I did.

It's a piece of wire, it's length has much to do with reception.

Why not just bend it, surely y'all have bent a coat hanger before!

Same deal, only it's stainless.
