Anyone have experience with smittybuilt winches?

Im looking at a xrc8 that is for sale locally. I was going to get a champion but when i saw this the price got me interested. Is it a cheaply built winch since its so cheap? I just want something that will last for a little while.

Don't know, but I just bolted one on the front of my Jeep last week. For $284.99, I'll give it a try.

not to pimp another site, but on Pirate4x4 there's a whole thread on this winch, with good and bad observations. From what I remember it's rebadged Mile-marker (but that could be the winch from summit racing that's selling for $399) but I could be wrong. with winches I feel you get what you pay for and you want something that won't leave you stranded.

I have one but haven't used it yet. I do think it is the same one as MM. It uses an oddball controller plug compared to the Warn and other name brands. I damaged mine, and I replaced it with a MM controller. Identicle down to the screws.
