| are tranny problems common in jeeps?
Im just wondering. Even though mine went because what the previous owner did to it--- something installed wrong, 4wd never worked from the start, etc. Its still being worked on at the moment but i'll know all the details later. But I'm kinda nervous now just because it happened and because ive heard so much from dodge. Didnt expect it from my jeep but hopefully it was just a fluke.

If, however, you intend to change your suspension, go with beefy tires, and try to climb or go through everything in sight, then yes, Jeeps can have tranny problems. The basic units installed are set up for occasional, light, off road use. They will not hold under the loads heavy off road use puts on them.

Haven't heard of any recurring tranny issues. Know a few 98 TJ's with the manual that have almost 200K on them.

well as long as ive had it its only been through a little mud. So i wouldnt consider myself a serious off roader or anything. but it has been through stuff where my friends have gotten stuck and ive made it through no problem and turns out ive only had 2wd lol.

The Ax-5 was fine before major mods once i put a lift and tires on it was over.
110k on first trans other two lasted a total of 20k after the lift.
AX-5 SUCKS for an offroading trans.

stay away from the NV3500 6 spds in the rubicons, lots of recorded problems, as well as the pugeot trannies.

This transmission is huge and not easy to put in. This swap requires a lot of modifications.
Here is the thread of the swap and there is a lot left out that I needed to do. http://www.wranglerforum.com/yj-chat/...wap-10150.html |
