Audio system HELP!

Hey everybody well as the title states I need some help putting a new system in my YJ. I've wired up basic audio speakers and stereos in my ride in the past but I'm wanting to use an amp. Okay so heres the plan new 4"X6" speakers in the dash which I'll run off a Pioneer Deck. Now my Jeep doesnt have a back seat. So I figured I'll make two 6"X9" speaker boxes that mount right behing the front seats that tilt the speakers up slightly towards the driver and passenger they will be mounted "where the back seat use to be" I also am going to get two kicker 8" subs to mount under the two front seats. I'm not a bass fanatic so They'll be fine for me. Now my question is to save some money could I just buy one quality 4 channel amp like around an 600-1000 Watt amp and run both the 8" woofers their RMS is like 125 Watts each with a peak of like 300 and the 6X9s which are rated for like an 80 Watt RMS off of the single amp? Or do I have to fork out cash for 2 smaller amps???

Hell yeah...a good 4 channel amp will have built in x-overs you can utilize too. Or, you could go 5 channel and run everything

Either one really, I sell more of the 400.4's because the footprint is smaller and is easier to mount.

Okay sweet and what is the deal with ohms? I see the amps put out different watts at different ohms. What exactly are ohms?

Ok the short answer is its the measurment of impedance the coil of the speaker has. For instance, most of your coaxial speakers will have an impedance of 4 ohms. Now, if you wire two of them together in parallel, it cuts that in half or 2 ohms. This is normally done with subwoofers so that its possible to get more power out of the amplifier. Or it can be done with front and rear speakers to be able to run a 2 channel amp on 4 speakers (it just won't have a fader for front and rear) The trick is not to overload the amp, a lower ohm load than recommended will result in blowing the amp up. For your system using a 400.4 you would run the rear speakers off channels 1 and 2, one speaker per channel. Are you still planning on running two subs?

Man I'd like to thank you real quick because you've already been a huge help. But I'm thinking of maybe just one 10" sub now instead of two 8"s so probably just one sub.

Ok no problem, just get a single voice coil (4ohm) woofer and bridge it on channels 3 and 4. This will show the amp a 4 ohm mono load.
