ball joint replacement

As many of you already know I have a 2007 JK. So I go to get a safety check today to get it registered, it's done 25K miles. Ball joint on the passenger side has to be replaced, isn't it a bit soon for that to need doing? & wonder if it would be covered by warranty so I am going to call a dealer & check as well & appreciate any input from WF, thanks

Good luck...with a lift, I bet they will fight replacing that under warranty. And that's definitely not normal for a balljoint to wear out in only 25k miles...unless you drive a Dodge Dakota (I replaced em twice within a year...).

Warranty was made to cover the stock parts. Since we go past that I don't think it is fair to even ask for replacement. 25k can be a good amount depending on your components and how you like to wheel. Ball joints are easy to replace. They are just time consuming.

It is ok, I don't really mind replacing them, just thought it was a bit premature considering it doesn't do heavy off roading & apart from that is driven about twice a week. The guy that did the Safety suggested the warranty route & his Dad has a fleet of 40 Jeeps here at his hire business. I don't expect too much out of a warranty with whats done to it & being the second owner, so thanks, I'll just do the job & it will be a done deal. Happy Holidays!

It's always worth a shot to see if they'll cover it...some dealerships will hassle you about it, others will say no problem! Also it can sometimes make a difference if it was professionally installed (with proof of installation) or a DIY job.

25K does seem a bit low but with these vehicles it's hard to say what is normal. I've had pretty good luck with the dealership covering things and I'd probably at least give the service manager a call and see if it's something they'd cover for you, but I wouldn't be upset if they refused seeing that the extra weight of the tires, I'd imagine could cause it to wear faster.

UPDATE-
Went to another shop today for a second opinion as I just couldn't see that there would be a problem with ball joints this soon. They put Jeep on the hoist & showed me that there is not a darn thing wrong with the ball joints. The first guy (liar) said they were shot & when I asked to have after market ones put in he tried to tell me they aren't available as Chrysler wont release the specs so no one else makes them. I know for a fact that they are available from Moog.
I really hate that he would go to the extent of BS-ing to my face & trying to pull the wool over my eyes because I am a woman. Should I go & kick him in the shins? maybe' I will just go & give him an earfull of Aussie' swearing etc' etc' etc'

BS'ing aside, if you do replace them I'd try NAPA Premium or Raybestos premium.
Good stuff, made in USA, synthetic bearings, and I think a good warranty.

That sucks . . . glad you trusted your instincts and got a second opinion. As far as the kicking and swearing . . . aim for his ding ding instead of the shins and please save the Aussie swearing for me . . . PM me for my number . . . I'd enjoy listening to a woman with an Aussie accent say just about anything!!!

I can assure you that it is nothin' to like about an Australian lady scorned & voicing her opinion. I try to maintain a certain amount of composure but when someone deliberately tries to rip me off, well.......lets just say it's good ur' not listening, lol
But thanks Schmo, I appreciate the support
