Basic Lift Question

I am Thinking about going with a larger tire than the stock ones which came with my 09, as well as adding a front and rear bumper. The question is will I need to lift at all.

I realize that the lift is going to be influenced by the tire size as well as the sag created by the bumper/winch, but my question to you is:

If this is a dd with some off road, how much can I lift without the on road manners being unruly?

1 1/2"? 2"? 1/2"?

Any thoughts on how much these lifts will affect my on road drive.

Might be a better question for the JK forum. I am only basically familiar with the JK's, but I think you can put on 32" without a lift on them. I cannot link a post as I am relying on my memory (never rely on memory!).

What size are your stock tires?

Fairly sure I have 29's They were stock on my 09 unlimited. I Have the tow package, but I think that only affects what springs were installed standard.

For a TJ model, you can fit 31" tires without any rubbing. For a JK, it may go up to 32". You may want to try searching in the JK forum.

I did some searching and reading. 32's should fit. 33's may fit but they will definately rub. Here is one of the many threads on the subject from the JK forum.

See post #3 here

Also, on the lift, a 2" BB (budget boost - shocks/spacers) would be a good start choice.

Awesome, Thanks!

I think I'd like to put on a set of 32's.

I appreciate all the info. Doing some more reading on here, and think I'm going to go with the Wrangler Duratracks. They seem to have a great balance between off road ability, aggressive look, and low highway noise.

So the question becomes, if I want to run 31's or 32's should I get a small lift? Maybe 1 1/2"?

My buddy had 32's on his with no lift. anytime he had flex they rubbed the flares so I would recommend a 2" budget boost kit.
