Battery life expectancy

Per VW. I couldn't get a source, but I expect the subject battery would be a flooded lead-acid type found as original equipment on their fleet.

Great picture Thanks. Here in Vegas 36-48 months. Depends weather it is new vehicle or real old. You know lights stay on after you get out etc

yes, great picture, great thread. i think we might sticky this... here in Florida... you're pretty lucky if you can get 2 or 3 years out of a battery. the heat is murder on them...

Well cool. I'd hoped it would come in useful. If I can find my Robinair refrigerant temp/pressure matrix ill post it too.

My Lexus I bought certified pre-owned, the battery came with an 84 month warranty. Interesting stuff ... my Jeep battery is 3 years old, this graphic makes me want to replace it!

you'll see signs when it's time to replace it... do you have a bunch of accessories? powering them directly off the battery (the static drain) will kill it quicker too...

And all this time I thought cold was worse for a battery because it takes so much more to turn over all winter. Guess I was wrong!

Discharging your battery, by leaving your lights on, etc., will also drastically effect its lifetime. If you leave your car alarm on, for a few weeks, without driving it, your battery will also be drained.

The chart is a guideline that correlates the affects of heat on the service life of a flooded lead-acid battery, as installed as factory standard equipment on VW group automobiles for use in North America.

I bought a battery charger/conditioner and when I don't drive the jeep for a month or so I put it on the charger and my battery has lasted 6 years so far and I am in Chicago area!

I live in So Cal and my stock Jeep battery only lasted me 17 months, a little over 19k miles. Jeep replaced it under warranty though without question.

I think that the jarring from my off-road adventures probably took a toll on the lead acid plates, so when this one dies, I'll probably replace with a yellow-top Optima or a Die Hard Platinum AGM.

I have an odyssey (same as die hard platinum) got it for Father's Day... nothing but good things so far.

I agree with this. I have lived in Central FL for over 35 years. The "9 months of summer" here are hot and humid as hell. My average car battery life has been 2 years. I get really happy if they last 3 years. However, the tiny battery on a 1991 Miata that I sold two years ago, was 7 years old when it died. Go figure!

10/8/00 I put a Sears Diehard Gold in a 1988 E-150 Van I own, it's still in there. I hope I get that kind of life out of its replacement if/when I replace it. LOL

Dealing with what I think is a dead battery right now. Seems to hold some charge, but not enough to get the car started

I replace all my vehicle batteries generally every three years. Nothing worse than getting stuck somewhere with a dead battery.

I got 10 years out of the original battery in my 02. You should have no problem getting 3,4 years out of a battery.

I have a Hemi coversion with two batteries and have limited room on each side and have been using Kenetic 1400,s,unless you keep a constant charge on them the alarm and computer runs them down.

My experience agrees with the graphic from VW.
When I lived in Phoenix, AZ batteries lasted 2 years.
They would die with no warning due to internal short from plate warp.
One start full cranking power, the next start nothing but click...
