You know, I just remembered something. When I took my YJ for a test drive of the car lot, I got a wave from a JK. Heh, kinda forgot all about that.

Though I may be new to the board, I'd say this horse, as the title states, is pretty well beat. I'm not new to Jeeps though, as I have owned my share (starting with a '78 CJ5). I've lost count of how many Jeeps I've owned, but one thing was always the same - once you owned one, you could not live for long without one. And owning one meant you were part of a unique "family", hence the friendly "wave" to other Jeepers. I remember when the YJs came out and we CJ owners screamed and yelled that "they weren't real Jeeps", similar to what is hitting the JKs now. Nonetheless, we take what the manufacturers give us, we make changes (sometimes radical), and smile as we enjoy the open road, waving to our friends. I missed not having a Jeep for several years, but I've got one now and I am waving to all my long-lost "family" members.

OR perhaps you could re-read my post. Hypocritical would be if I did NOT wave back when a JK waves to me. I simply said i will not INITIATE a wave because 9 times out of 10, I will not get a return wave, even when it was the same Jeep I'd waved to 4 other times that week. I WILL WAVE BACK IF A JK OWNER WAVES FIRST.

You know, I may come off as a pompous ass, but I'd rather be an ass than an idiot.

Yeah daggo, I've been following this thread and it was goin good and then all of a sudden you started being very rude. Cut it out bro. I don't care how smart, witty, or cool you think you are. This forum is for people to communicate friendly, not bash others. What's so wrong saying that he'll wave back if he gets waved to first?! Answer- absolutely nothing. And yeah the "prayer" comment, if u bothered to read that thread and help a fellow jeeper, was WAY OUT OF LINE. Quit trolling and just enjoy the forum. Thanks

Road trip results- Thanksgiving holiday found me driving to a little north of Hartford Wi. A total of almost 650 miles were driven since Thurs. In Wisconsin wave returned 100 % however very few jeeps were seen in Wi. The only ones that I didn't see return a wave were the ones on the Toll Road going the opposite way. (hard to see at combined speed 120mph. So I guess it was a total success all the way around-yes Jks as well.

So everyone keep waving

Jeep Wave from afar

Anyone else notice if your at a red light and there is another wrangler stoped at the light coming the opposite direction you don't wave till one or both jeeps are moving?

Thats because you would probably wave again when passing which constitutes a double wave which opens a whole new parameter of decorum that would cause further discussion or something of that nature. I do not know what I just said.

It's all a matter of perspective. Naturally all you TJ guys don't think it's rude to bash JKs. From my point of view others were doing the bashing.

What I perceived as wrong was the fact that he stated he would wave forst to TJs and not JKs. They're all Wranglers. I get the least amount of returned waves from TJs but never come on here crying about them not waving back.

I did read the thread and that was EXACTLY my point. We are all fellow Jeepers REGARDLESS of which Wrangler we drive. If you are not going to initiate the courtesy of a wave to a JK, then don't accept courtesy in other forms in return.

+1 I've noticed I do that too. You obviously see each other, but wait for the wave. However, if you are adjacent to another jeep at a stop light and will not likely pass each other, I've noticed that either I or the other jeep just wave whenever..

I think it comes from the awkwardness that if you wave then just sit there as you pass you HAVE to wave again kinda like if you were having a conversation, said Hi then as you leave saying bye...

You know your point is moot either way, right?

You can blame me for being a prick to JK drivers by not initiating the wave, but at the same time, they are just as much to blame as I am for not initiating it. So either way, they're snubbing me and other Jeepers just as much as I'm snubbing them.

I'd think instead of wasting your breath on me, you'd take a more positive route and work on educating more JK owners about the wave since they apparently weren't taking the hint from this TJ owner. There are a couple JKs here in town that used to return the wave, so whenever I pass them often times we will BOTH initiate the wave...them because they've obviously familiarized themselves with it and me because I know they aren't going to look at me like an idiot as I drive past.

What I DO see as hypocritical is not me refusing to initiate a wave based on a certain body style of Jeep, but someone who drives a Jeep without understanding the "Jeep Thing"...and not bothering to try and pick up on the customs of being a Jeeper even when other Jeepers try to get them to understand. That's not just an insult to TJ owners...that's an insult to ALL Jeepers.

P.S.
Any JK who waves at me, ALWAYS gets a wave in return unless I just didn't notice them passing until it was too late and then I still feel like an ass for leaving them hanging.

That settles it. I'm going to make it my mission to wave to each and every TJ just in case it's you someday and I get the chance to make you feel like an ass.

Don't blame the JK, someday you may be driving one. There are just as many TJ drivers out there who don't get the Jeep thing.

You seem to be very defensive and sensitive about your JK. I don't blame you though, as I am very defensive if someone makes fun of my TJ. Even I, a proud TJ owner, have grown to like the JKs. Just give it time, jeepers have always dislike the "new" model wrangler. YJ, TJ, and now JK. Give it time. When the next model comes out, All of us TJ owners who "bash" the JK will all probably own a JK and bash the new model for not waving lol. Don't take it so personally. Oh and I got waved to by a couple of JK owners today but none of the TJ owners waved back, so JKs DO WAVE.
Jeeps are jeeps and jeepers are jeepers. Once all the soccer mom JK owners fizzle out and buy a sports car, only the TRUE JK owners will remain. Can't wait for that day. Give it time and until then, let us stop these JKs don't wave threads.

Thank ya thank ya very much

Cool, enjoy my novel of a post

I agree with you. If I'm defensive or sensitive it's only toward the idiotic generalizations. I bought my first Jeep in 1983 so I know all about the next generation of Jeep thing. The TJ fixed a lot of what was wrong with the Wrangler and the JK improved upon that. TJ owner's who bash JK's make themselves seem petty and jealous.

Over time I have learned to appreciate the YJ, but would love to own another CJ someday.

if the topic of the thread has the words "Jeep wave" in it, it should be tied to the south end of a northbound mule and set on fire.
