best and worst mods....

I know that over the years many of you have done hundreds of mods to your jeeps and wheeled extensively... or not.

Which mod has given you what you expected or more? Extra clearance, more power, whatever. Is it your favorite? Which mod was a disappointment and didn't yield the results you'd hoped for?

My first real mod was my lift and quick disconnects which I have yet to try out so I'm going to refrain from giving my opinion... though the disconnects are so cooooool. Oh, and the seat risers are going on this week sometime so they might end up a favorite.

I made a mirror for when I pull my doors off. Total cost was about 6 bucks. It works very well. I was pleasantly surprised.

My least favorite mod was my shortlived light bar. I got it a month or so after I bought my Jeep and soon realized my mistake as it hit every branch of every tree I would drive under. Or got tangled on the vines that hang from the trees. That lasted about a month before I ripped it back off and threw on the windshield light mounts.

Best: 4" suspension lift, oh what a difference in ground clearance.

Worst: can't think of any. I did my homework........

Best mod: Hula Girl on dash....
Followed closely by my lift (extra clearance), rock sliders (saved my rocker panels many times) and the grab handles (passengers love them).

Worst mod: Haven't had one yet, I'm happy with everything I've done so far. The most useless thing I've done (in my opinion) has been the armrests I put in. But my wife loves them, so I guess it was worth the $40 I spent. I really try and do my homework before I decide to do anything to the Jeep.

Instead of worst.... how about least favorite or most worthless? Since so many of you have done your homework.

And bigjeep, you can always go bigger.

the absolute best thing i ever did to my cj was the propane conversion, it runs like a champ now, no carb, no high idle, no dying on inclines, it rocks!!! least fave thing was the bumper mounted hi-lift jack, gat caught on the 1st rock i encountered and went to dumpster soon after.

Well at least some good came of my bad decision. Yeah it was a real pain. Not only that but it caused a lot of wind noise with the top off.

Best mod - Long arm kit from Full Traction. It works as advertised and then some!

Worst mod - rear tire carrier/bumper. Added too much weight to the rear of the Jeep, and caught on every step down that was higher than 2'. Works great for moderate trails, but my buddies are all out of their heads, and I can't say no to anything...

Best: Tough Stuff Hood light bar, 4" lift, 33" tires. The light bar has 6 rectangle lights that mount under the bar and a high lift jack mount on top.

Best: JKS front track bar. It fixed ALL of my steering issues with my ORO steering. Also, my headlight upgrade - best inexpensive mod everyone should do.

Worst: Tube fenders.

Scout, what headlight upgrade you talking about? The H3 conversion or whatever it is?

It makes a HUGE difference. I think it was around $ 200 for everything. I can't really remember but that sounds about right.

How did you do this? I am sick of always looking in the rearview and hoping for the best when I pass cops and have the doors off.

I went to NAPA and bought a convex 4 inch round mirror. I think it was for a trailer, or a boat. Either way, the important part was that it mounted with one single bolt in the center. I got some metal with the holes in the strips. Serrated I think it's called. Cut it to about a foot long and then bent it to work with the bolt on my windshield frame. I used krylon fusion and painted it all black. I'll try and find a pic, or take one tomorrow.

worst: budget boost.

instead of installing that stuff i should have saved some money until i had enogh for a real suspension lift.
now i ordered a OME lift and hope that i will waste my money for bad jeep parts.

best:

- jks quicker disconnects
- many high beams (i often drive in the forest at night and need as much lights as i can install).

Best mod? Taking the time to realize spending more money the first time means saving money later when you don't have to do it twice.

Worst mod? See above and raise it a geared and locked dana 30.

The best physical mod so far that I enjoy is my dana 60.
