Your topic reminds me of this one. Some gnarly pics, so if you're weakhearted, DON'T click on it.

^Agreed.

OP, no matter what, soemthing will get damaged, but you can save a lot by having a good bumper that covers enough of the front to protect the sheet metal.

We work a lot of accidents caused by deer strikes in my county. We even had a unit go down because of a deer. Ambulance at 85 vs deer at 15= Ambulance wins (in the end). We had a lady hit a pregnant doe the other day and it literally got cut in half by the roof at the windshield and the ENTIRE inside of the car was covered in blood. I have pics somewhere... the baby deer was on the floor in the backseat dead. That part was kinda sad. I would recommend a Ranch-hand type bumper if strictly just going for deer stopping. Or a 1999 F-350 Dually Supercrew Longbed (ask me how I know ).

After everything said and done, let us keep ourselves safe including other creatures from harm. All have a right to live in this planet, including deer. I am from another country though so I am unfamiliar with dangers posed by deer suddenly crossing roads. Cheers!

Its not like we're purposely trying to hit deer with our vehicles. Especially on the east coast, at night they literally jump in front of you before you have time to react. They are everywhere. One might say "slow down" but many don't understand the scope of how large the U.S. really is. I don't know if you're from Europe, but the entire EU could fit inside a handfull of states. Anyways we'regear not trying to hit them that's for sure, just trying to protect ourselves when Bambi decides to go suicidal and jump in front of the pretty light going 45mph

Warning! Graphic photos

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Graphic photos. Here is the deer strike I was referring to in an earlier post.

This is why I am putting a stinger on my jeep, or something to push them down. This happened about a week ago.

And inside the back seat.

I hope this influences everyone's decision to buy a deer-flector of some sort. Plus everyone "they" sell I get 50 bucks! (bad pun? ok...)

Be careful out there.

There's lots of kangaroos around where I do a lot of wheelin. You do not want to hit 200kg of a 6 foot roo at 100km/h. When dusk comes I just slow down, a lot. They like to hop right out in front of you.
That pic jeepjones posted above - judging by the flags and the license plate may have been taken in Australia. It looks like a roo bar the long distance semis wear.

I have an ARB Bull Bar or "Roo Bar" I guess they call them down in Australia.

So far I've hit deer 4 times and totalled 2 cars, not gonna risk it anymore.
Heavy steel bumper and really bright lights are mandatory for me.

I would go with a 1/4 plate bumper with a 20" stinger. The stinger would keep the deer from crashing into your windshield. Metalcloak has some really nice modular bumpers. Their 15 percent discount sale is about to end. If you are interested you better move quickly. The next best thing would be an ARB deluxe bumper. Check Craigslist for someone selling a Jeep bumpers with a stinger in your area. You might find a hand made one that is far superior to any of the above.

I nailed a big buck here in Connecticut with my YJ and the stock bumper. We saw each other coming and he lowered his head and wacked the drivers side corner of the bumper and fender. Bent the corner of the bumper in and crimped the fender a little but he bounced off and stumbled into the woods. Pretty sure he died but I never stopped. Now there are more and more moose out so I upgraded to the Smitty SRC bumper. I don't think it will really help against a moose but it gives me a warm an fuzzy inside.
