Best Cell Phone for Jeep Owners

Ok everyone, I have been dying to ask this question! What is the best cell phone for a Jeep owner? What do you all use? I currently have the Samsung Rugby. Its not bad, but its getting old and starting to give me trouble.

What other phones are you all using that keep up with your "life without limits"? Gotta have a phone that you can rely on not to break and lets face it... we all break stuff.

I'm an iPhone 3G user thinking of an upgrade to the new model. I like it, even with some iffy AT&T reception in Utah.

My husband has the boulder phone from verizon. Completely water proof. Sat at the bottom of the lake for 30 mins, pulled it up and worked perfectly. He is rough on phones and we get tired of replacing them.

If you actually take your jeep offroad I would say anything from Casio or a motorola work phone from Verizon. I-phones can't take any kind of abuse much less water. And being AT&T isn't 3G but 40 percent of their towers, your apps won't work in the woods

I have a droid x and I absolutely love it. I use it for everything my girlfriend and I went camping and we used the mobile hotspot for our laptops. It's a great phone.

I have the Iphone 3g 8gig and i havent had any problems with it, ive taken it wheeling and lost it in the snow for 2 hours and when i did find it it was working just fine and it was soaked lol ive droped it from my seat in my yj hitting asphalt, rocks, driveways, sidewalks etc and my screen has no cracks and the phone works awesome still if you were thinking about getting a new phone i would recomend it, i got mine for 50 bucks from AT&T, as for there service, i get great reception just about everywhere including the woods around where i live not sure about your area but its still a phone to be considered.

Lets take this a step further...

Which bluetooth earpiece or mic have you been able to use while riding in your jeep - topless, soft top, etc?

I have an iphone, as does the rest of my family since I pass mine down after upgrading. I've been through several "noise canceling" earpieces with various success. Currently using jawbone prime, which if nothing else stays in my ear better than the previous jawbones.

I was intrigued by the Motorola HX1, and the bone conduction mic. It should be sweet for our windy rides. Anyone try one?

My HTC Evo has been great for me..

But if you're talking durability..'eh. Mine lasted during a little rain fall as i left it out plugged in charging at the electrical box on our campsite, plus a couple 2-3' drops..over the time i've had it...But leave it on your dash, or on your hood and you take off on the trails..I'm not thinking it'll hold up to well when it slides off and hits a nice big rock..

..But they are great phone for use with navigation. I was using my Evo as we did some hiking thru the forest. Used the My Tracks app...it pin pointed our location great. All tho we knew exactly where we were going, that app would have been a life saver had we gotten lost! Plus it'll record and save your journeys..first time i used it and i loved it.

I have push to talk (TiKL) on my HTC Evo (with other android users that is) Unless iPhone has the app as well.

I'd say any smartphone with an Otterbox case. My brother's boss has an iPhone with this case and he was using it out in the rain with no problem. As for me I'm getting the HTC Evo at the end of this month and an Otterbox case as soon as possible.

That's an old sat phone. You can get a hell of a lot better than that.
But you could always get a PSC-13 Sat comm, with encryption software.

Droids suck. iPhone is the only way to go. Verizon may have better coverage, but it's not worth downgrading to the droid over it.

Have you owned a Droid? My bet is no...they are faster, smarter, and on a network that supports um. I won't have a smart phone because I don't need one and they aren't tough enough for me.

I have been happy with Verizon as a company, so anything they sell will work for me. In this particular area, people aren't happy with their iPhones because of AT&T's crappy coverage. I'm sure in other parts of the country, AT&T works fine and so do the iPhones. Just not here. Doesn't make any difference to me. I won't own ANYTHING Apple.

I beg to differ... my Droid X runs circles around my brothers iPhone 4. Pretty much to the point that he is considering dumping it and switching to Verizon. Granted alot of it also has to do with the iPhone being stuck on AT&T's sorry excuse for a cell service.

iPhone and AT&T ....
