Better deal on 2012 with the 2013 shipping

Looking to get into a wrangler in the next couple weeks. My thinking is that dealerships should be motivated to get a 2012 off the lot with the 2013's starting to ship. Am I right in thinking that?

It just doesn't make sense that they would want both on the lot with the 2013's only costing a couple hundred more.

Any good ways to negotiate or anyone been in a similar situation who is willing to share if the dealership flexed more? MSRP on the one I want is 25,060 and invoice is $24,246

You most certainly should get a better deal on a 2012 MY. I believe they also have incentives on the 2012 to clear them out. The 2013 MY sales/press launch starts in one month.

I just bought a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited two weeks ago. Got it for $250 over invoice The best time to buy any vehicle is the end of the month. Dealers have quotas and pay financing for each vehicle on the lot, each month it's there.

Yah in a normal scenario I'd think I could get them to or close to invoice since they still get $ from holdback. I don't want to insult them but I'm thinking / wondering if I could get them significantly below invoice since I'd imagine there is incentive for them to liquidate the 2012's now......I would love to know if/what that incentive is to be able to use it in negotiations

2013 White Sahara Unlimited out the door at $33,000
no trade in or rebates. Only used the Tread Lightly discount
so they could get the 2% back off Invoice. My MSRP was
$36,015 so mine was 2.5% below invoice. I pay all MA State
sales tax and registration fees. They also offered Lifetime
MaxiCare Warranty for $2,500 (list is $3,400) and I may
see if they will lower that price to $2,300
Picking it up today at 3pm
Auto Tranny, Max Tow, Limited Slip and Dual Top

I told my sales rep in Southern Virginia that I had an offer to fax to him. I printed out what I wanted from the Excel program on page one of 2013 thread which includes invoice pricing. Wrote that I would pay $1000 below invoice and that I belonged to an affiliate company. 30 minutes later I got a call back that the offer was accepted. Had him fax it back to me in writing. Total time on phone maybe 5 minutes, no hassle. Also had them include install of the soft top (once I take the hard top off). It was to easy, maybe could have got more if I wanted the hassle of negotiating. I'm happy with what I got. I could have also saved a couple of hundred if I wanted to drive 200 miles, wasn't worth the drive, and not having a loaner vehicle (which the local company offers) when in the shop. Invoice price was $32,200, so just over 3% off invoice.

Sorry, that was for a 2013, so if you can't do better than that for a 2012, then get yourself a 2013. I saw somewhere that Chrysler was offering $3500 for 2012's but that may not be for the Jeep Wrangler.
