beware of ebay

my buddy found a great deal on a fourwheeler. brand new for only 2,200 buy it now located near him. so he did this thing where you send the money to ebay motors and then they contact the seller and send it to him. so anyway long story short he is now out 2,200 dollars!!!!!!

see what happened was the seller has hacked into ebay motors and he put the address of ebay motors as his address so when my buddy sent the money to "ebay motors" he actually sent it to the seller. hard to explain but ebay motors has absolutely NO reference or files. all they have is that he won the four wheeler. everything else is deleted. this absolutely sucks! that is a ton of money! what a jerk.

please do not call my friend an idiot for some reason. i thought it was pretty smart to send the money to ebay motors instead of straight to the seller and how in the world was he supposed to know the guy hacked in.

I use Ebay every now and again. I have received so many scams that 'claim' to be Ebay, it's pitiful. I even get bills in the mail claiming to be bills from Ebay.

Lots of scammers out there.

He should definitely press the issue with ebay. If ebay was truly hacked, which I doubt it was, they would be responsible. More than likely this jerk just did some creative editing and sent him an email posing as ebay. He should check the email he received that listed the payment address. Forward it to scam@ebay.com.

Your best rule of thumb with ebay is to only use auctions that use paypal. Paypal has certain guarantees that limit a buyers risk.

Well, that sucks. I've used ebay cautiously over the past few years. Fortunately, I've yet to be disapointed with them. I hope they find the guy that did this.

fake address and fake names. they think he lives in new york and hes done it several times. my buddy visited a forum and there was a thread talkin all about this guy and what hes done.

see what the seller did was he put in his "friends" name and address and the buyer. so if ebay motors contacted the buyer they would actually be calling his "friend" and he would say everything is good.

i've been using ebay a couple times also. i figure as long as i stay away from the high priced stuff i may be alright.

If you or ebay can get ahold of the friend why not take it out on him. If he is willing to cover for his friend hes willing to take a beating for him to.

I use ebay for quite a bit of my purchases. I've never had a problem. As long as you're smart about it, you're cool.
