bigger tire (more Weight) on stock spare tire mount...

allright, iam looking for opinions and knowledge on whether or not my stock tailgate spare tire mount will be ok with a bigger tire...
The scenario is a 285 75 r 16 tire mounted on the stock 16" steel jeep wheel...I simply wonder if the stock mount will support, i am trying to be cost effective (i have no money) but i want to make sure i dont srcew up my tailgate or worse...thanks to all

I run 33" spare in 15" rim. as long has you're not doing too hard core of off roading you'll be fine. I've had mine like that for a few years not with no problems. But like i said if you're into more serious off roading or any situation where the jeep will be bouncing around a lot then look into a bumper/tire carrier combo.

Good question, I'm guessing you are talking about a JK?

If so, it is my understanding you can safely go up to a 33" tire with the stock mount. Your 285/75R16 tires are just a tad under 33" so I think you'll be okay. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

The 07 thru 11 tailgate will support a 33" (up tp 80 lbs -total) as long as you use Daystar extended bumpstops and

If you do a lotta off-roading--you will need a further tire weigh support--or a swingaway tire carrier-

Good luck
