body armor for street crawlers?!?!

ok i guess this may be a lil rant, or some what, and to each his own...i do understand trickin your ride the way you want it and making it look good and all, but i have been seeing more jeeps sporting body armor rear corners and tube front fenders, and rock sliders from smittybilt and they are "pretty boy" jeeps that dont even see dirt roads around these parts. i do admit i have the rock guards, but hell ive bashed them into trees and everything else in the area..lol but i dont get it i guess like i said to each there own, ....haha

If I had an A-10 warthog, I'd fly it around town and run errands in it. Probably won't ever seen any real combat, but hey to each his own!

But yea, the jeep has really turned mainstream nowadays. Expect the fashion show to get worse!

My Jeep has a lot of junk on it. It sees plenty of trees, steep mountain trails, deep snow, etc. etc.

On nice days when I am not up in the woods, I drive it to the store.

I am sure someone has looked at my Jeep in the parking lot and thought the same thing.

The old saying comes to mind.....Don't judge a book by it's cover.

You could also be right.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Last time I checked this was America. We are free to spend our money how we please, and we should not knock someone who has a joyfull hobby. Almost sounds like jealousy.

How do you know they aren't being wheeled? Mine's a daily driver and has probably been places a lot of Jeeps will never seen... unless some stalker is following me around, they have no idea how deep I get when I leave the store.

Who's to say these people aren't offroading and then washing his/her vehicle?

Personally, I hate a dirty Jeep. When I get a chance to take it offroad I'm gonna get it dirty as Hell, take some pics, and off to the wash it's going.

I fail to see what's so cool about a cruddy looking vehicle. If I wanted a cruddy vehicle, I wouldn't have bought a $35,000 Jeep. Instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing with his/her vehicle, worry about your own vehicle and what you do with it.

Well for those of us that don't live in the middle of a muddy field or have to use old logging roads and game trails to get around it may take a while for our jeeps to get truly dirty. I didn't buy my jeep to sink into every mud hole I find or solely for offroading. I do it when I have the time but its not what I live for. Now hauling all my fishing gear to the shore line is a different story. I have enough sand in the floorboards to grow plants.

X2. I have my Jeep to cart me, my wife, large boxes for work, shopping trips to Ikea (or wherever...), to get me around in bad weather, to have fun in good weather, to bring us off the beaten path for nature "excursions," etc.

To be completely honest, I saw a documentary on the Rubicon and the capabilities impressed the shit outta me; I just had to have one. It was just one of those instances where I saw something and for no logical reason whatsoever, I found myself having to own one. Rock crawling and riding through mud were the furthest things from my mind.

Armor and rock sliders help when those damn Hummers

(and everything else) park next to you and try to slam their door into your door at the mall. They get a dented door, you get some paint on your rock sliders.

I saw a chromed out (factory package?) Jeep the other day, almost had to lose my lunch right there on the spot.

Luckily, I was in my car and not in the Jeep, so no wave was required. I just don't understand how anybody can think that looks good.

The only way you can tell a mall-crawler from a trail-enthusiast is to actually know the person.

For instance: My dad and I were eating lunch one afternoon and saw this super sweet jeep with a lift, tires, wheels, front/read bumpers, all the stuff. He even had gas tanks on the back and a roof rack. We noticed he was wearing a suit though, and so my dad assumed his jeep was for show. A week later, I saw this same jeep driving down the road covered in mud.

You can't just assume based on seeing a jeep once. Even so, if people want to mod their jeep for looks, let them go spend the money. Sure, it's annoying because you think they're a cool guy who will go off-roading with you, but they're doing what makes them happy, and amen to that.

Having all the money for a nice rig when you know they don't use it is annoying! I know a couple people that don't, but they don't have the armor under or set ups where you can tell they hit the trails.

I'm still fairly new to Jeeps but it does sadden me thinking that mall Jeeps will never see the hills and mud that they are made for. Good thing they will make more.

And for the most of us that don't buy 35,000 dollar Jeeps that prefer to build them ground up I thank you. Working on your rig giving up blood sweat and tears is what I love about my YJ

I think when people see a built jeep that is clean, they assume that it's a mall crawler. The reality is, you don't know that person and your only making that assumption out of ignorance, jealousy, etc. My jeep is usually washed because I like it clean and to keep it in good condition. I also take it off road just about every weekend and spend a few hours washing it on Sunday. Also, who cares if someone off roads or not. They aren't asking you to pay for their armor, lift, or whatever. Get over it....

I'm glad people buy them and not off road it. Keeps sales up and jeeps future bright. Also gives good deals on used jeeps that are not abused. Its nice that people use them but its also a 4wheel drive convertible some people need it just to get down there driveways in winter.

People that don't know me and see my Jeep around daily with sparkling paint and detailed suspension and glossed up plastic and rubber think I'm a mall crawler as well....

Then I come home from a long sunday of wheelin, full of mud/dust/ scratches.... can't even tell what color it is sometimes.... lol.

I'll drive it to work for a day or two.... then start cleaning it... by Wednesday, it's back to the detailed mall crawler look again....
until Sunday. the never-ending cycle...

Any armor at all will be a personal choice to the owner... be it for looks or protection. Either way.... use it for why you bought it.... I tend to make my own junk and have something original that noone else has... for now.

Who cares what people do to there Jeeps? Armor can protect your Jeeps from damage on the trail or damage from some jerk in a mall parking lot. I don't judge people by the looks of there Jeep. I personally don't care what people think of me and my Jeep. I mall crawl in it sometimes and rock crawl sometimes because it's my DD.

- Most Lamborghini drivers should sell their cars because they'll never go 217 mph.

- I should sell my nine guitars because I don't play them all at one time and I'm not in a band. While I'm at it, I should sell my half-stack and effects pedals, too.

- I should sell my home because there are three rooms in it we really don't use.

I know plenty of people who are perfectly happy with getting a Jeep, doing your basic offroading (at the most...), and just enjoy riding around in nice weather, regardless whether he/she spends $10,000 or $35,000.

OmG... Like my lambo is In da SHOP... With mAH G Tars and E Fex Peds.. If you don't like my ideals.. SO WHAT.. GO cry about it. Not going to change my mind that if you drop money on a winch and have no plan on ever using it other than driving around with it just to look cool than you are a tool. Again what I feel. Not here to pick apart what you think or anything Rock star.

thats a 23 hour trip... I have two Jobs and in school so I don't see that in my near future. I wish i had the money and time off to pull off a trip like that. Kentucky is full of great parks and areas like turkey bay to play in, Plus new ones popping up all the time. If you ever find your self out this way look me up.

What's with the name calling? All I did was state my opinion, just like you did. GO CRY ABOUT IT. Oh, wait, you ARE crying about it! Did I say anything offensive to you? Did I personally attack you? Yet, you call me a tool and get all defensive.

So anyway, "maH G Tars and E Fex Peds" are worth more than your faded little yellow G.L.A.D. Edition Jeep with its little sunshine design on the side of it, and your cheap Smittybilt seat covers.

Unlike your statements, that's not how I feel, just cold, hard facts.

Don't let it get to you. Some people are just bitter that they don't have what others do. 90% of this thread smacks of the ignorance if youth.
