Bros jeep has really loud clanking noise

So had to rescue my bro today. He was driving down the road put it in 4h (cuz it was raining "told him to never do this") after he did this it now has a really loud clanking any ideas. His jeep is an 2000 Cherokee with 140XXX.

little more info, what part of the jeep is the clanking coming from etc, is it in sync with the engine, only when moving?

If you or your brother dont crawl under the jeep and start checking things out, we wouldnt know anymore than you guys. Just crawl under there with a drop light and start feeling around. See if anything is loose, broken, leaking.
Is it a consistent noise, only when accelerating, only when braking, when coasting, only when turning....



I just dont understand peoples theory behing driving in 4wd when its raining.

Clanking increases when he accelerates and it always clanks sounds like it's coming from the tcase but not sure.

Get some GOOD pics of the underside of the vehicle and post them up.
Pinpoint where the noise is coming from and then report back.
