Building a stroker I6. . .block source?

I'm planning on building a stroker I-6 for my YJ, but I want to do it with a donor block so that my current DD Jeep can still be driven while I work on the stroker engine.

Do you guys think a salvage yard block would be worth it? or is there a good place to get a fresh 4.0 block to use for a stroker block (I want to build the stroker myself, not buy a pre-built stroker)?

Thanks!

Jasper engine will sell you a block.

But if your building a stroker it doesn't matter if it is new or used. The used JY block will be alot cheaper. You have to get it bored out (unless you have access to alot of machines to mill the block). you'll have to take it to a shop. Your basically rebuilding the block so JY donors work great.

Anything in particular I should be on the lookout for when shopping used Jeep blocks?

I'm planning on using the better flowing HO heads from the later years (can't remember which years now off the top of my head, though).

Thanks again!

Sorry when I typed "JY" I was meaning "junkyard". Was typing fast and just shorted it.

Any 4.0L block you can start with...doesn't have to any perticular model ANY 4.0L block will work doesn't matter if the block is from a YJ / TJ cherokee or grand cherokee. The block is all the same.

As for what to look for...well newer is always better...and well one that isn't cracked.

Look for an older Renix block first off, pre-91. They have thicker block walls than the HO's.
