Burnt leaf smell.........

Maybe I am crazy..........but I bought this ride 3 months ago and have done a few things to it, 2 inch suspension spacers, 1 1/2 wheel spacers, changed all the fluids, shocks, hoses, belts. Just had the wheels aligned today after a couple of DW episodes.

I ran the last three months with no doors or top and it's a lot like riding a motorcycle, hearing all the noises and smelling all the smells, thinking it might be you. Now I have the full soft top on and the full doors and for the last three days I've been getting "wiffs" of burnt leaves. It was so bad yesterday, 1/2 way home from work, that I damn near pulled over. Today it happened right when I started the engine. It doesn't happen all the time. I ran the heater both mornings and didn't notice it.

Today when I got home I left the engine running and did a "class A" inspection, nothing. I haven't been off road, haven't been through any leaves.

Crazy or not crazy ? Final answer ??

You're crazy.

That said, you probably bought a jeep that was nearby a nice leaf fire with the top on and a window down.

Smell the inside of the top, the carpet and the seats (not the butt part) and see if you can smell it there. If so, there are some things you can do to get rid of the smell.

If you can't smell anything on the seats/carpet, good luck with the tumor...

You know, I think I smelled it a couple of days ago. It might not be you, it could just be the valley.

Dude, serious? That's what I thought. Thought it was a grass fire but today at Big O on Stanley I smelled it right when I started the Jeep, weird.

I had the same problem last winter. I replaced the blower motor which smelled like burnt leaves. I also removed a bunch of leaves from the heat exchanger (which can be accessed with the blower motor removed). I had to make a tool that reached all the way into corners to heat exchanger. I had the same problem this year, although the motor and blower are ok, there were a lot of leaves in the heat exchanger. Smell is still present but I just did the repair on Sat and need to run some air freshener through the system. I park under a lot of trees (need the shade in TX) and assume this is the problem. I joined this forum to see if anyone else had an answer other then my assumption. I plan to add a screen under the fresh air intake (under the wiper) to eliminate to leave accumulation.
