this is a good info. I'm not a camper but would like to get into it and always wondered what is really needed. I like that the list is kept short so far and not alot of stuff I need to buy.

All depends if you have a wife / girlfriend come with you. I also sometimes have to tote kids camping as well. That is when the bumper rack comes out.

When it was just Skeeter and I, we'd go with the basics, plus fishing poles/guns, and dogs/dogfood. Since we had kids, we have to take a trailer to haul all of the stuff.

Actually, the motorhome only goes when the wife goes or we're camping with the club. When it's just me, I normally just take what fits in my backpack. Usually no tent, just my sleeping bag and pad and a sil-nylon tarp. My jet-boil stove, food and the other things I need to get by. Oh yeah, and Bourbon.... can't camp without Bourbon, that would just be wrong.

Jack Daniels, some sort of tequila, beer... now that my Jeep is full, the rest is obsolete. With enough JD, I dont care where I sleep and I probably snore loud enough that the bears wont bother me.

other nice to haves when multi-day camping (at a campsite):
tent; tarp; self inflating mats; sleeping bags; small battery operated fan (w/ lights) hung in the tent for the hot nights; lanterns; flashlights; chairs; tiny table used for: drinks, cards, games, etc; wood; axe or hatchet; gas grill & lighter; utensils to cook & eat with; bug spray & sunblock; first aid kit; a case or 2 of water; cooler 1: ice, meats, cheeses, condiments; cooler 2: utensils, paper plates, bread, chips, snacks; since I just recently started Jeeping when I camp, I also have tools & a jumpbox/air inflator.

So far, I have NOT been able to get all of this to fit in a 2-door Jeep with a fiancee & 75lb dog.

Jase -
Go to Wal-Mart and get the hitch rack, it will give you that little extra room. If I can take a family of 4 camping in a 2 Door Wrangler with a hitch rack..I think you can do it.

Ben, you need to start camping with us when we wheel. Make me feel better with someone else having a tent now that Hackle has his camper and Joe has the coach.

Sears and Target are your friends boss. You can outfit yourself with everything you'll need for around a hundred bucks. You don't need all that silly cold weather stuff around here.

I dunno. When we camp it isn't really like camping. I mean, our tent has a freakin dog den in it.

But we bring just about everything pictured here. Plus a chainsaw.
