Can a dashboard from an older Jeep be painted/dyed?

I have a CJ5 that has a dashboard that appears to be some sort of vinyl-like material. It's not as hard as plastic, but yet not as soft as upholstery material. The dash does have some give/flex, and it appears to be very porous.

Does anyone have any idea if this can be painted or dyed some way? If paint will do it, I'd guess it would have to be a somewhat flexible paint, or it would crack if the dash were pressed on very hard.

Maybe I just need to order a new dash? They do have sell them in black, which is what I want. But I'd rather paint it cheaply, and use that money on another part for the CJ!

Thanks, and cheers!

Thanks for the link.

I'm curious if that paint would work on a somewhat flexible, porous surface rather than a hard surface. I'll check it out. Thanks again.

I just answered my own question on the Duplicolor website:

"Restore or customize your interior vinyl seats, dash boards, door panels, shifter boots and consoles with Dupli-Color® Vinyl & Fabric Coating. Formulated with a maximum adhesion promoter so there's no need for primer, Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Coating won't crack, peel or chip"

Sounds like that just might work well for my application!

I just started fixing up my yj, I painted all the trim and fenders with dupli-color bumper, it came out great, I wanted to paint the door panels first to see how it comes out then move on to the dash. I couldn't get any dupli color vinyl so instead I got rustoleum fabric and vinyl, results very shitty paint, the nozzle sucks and no matter how I tried, I just couldn't get it right, so now I ordered dupli color I think I will have much better results. I will post some pics next week when I finish. And please when you finish post some pics
