Cant we all just live and let live??

I purchased my first Jeep a couple of months ago and not long after I also joined this forum to get helpful advice from you guys out there. I have not regretted joining and in fact have learned a great deal here from some very nice people. I've thoroughly enjoyed browsing through pics of alot of your rigs as alot of you out there have done fine jobs of outfitting.

The problem I do have, however, is while I search threads to learn more about my Jeep, I keep coming across threads that are so hateful with such lack of respect about how other people wish to live they're "Jeep lives".

One person wrote about how he cant understand why anybody would buy a Rubicon and drive their around kids in it. Another wrote that he would only wave at TJ's because JK owners who dont have lifts aren't worth it. One post I saw claimed that he would only wave at TJ's and YJ's period. I also read one that stated that when he sees a woman in a lifted jeep, she's basicaly a soccer mon who couldn't afford an H2! Seriously??

Does it really bother some people out there when another person (whom they have never met) wants to buy a Rubi and drive it around clean? Maybe take their kids for a ride? Does it get under peoples skin so bad when a Jeep owner would rather not lift his rig a few inches? Maybe they dont feel comfortable lifting a vehicle that has stability issues without a lift let along raising it. The hardcore Jeepers out there who absolutely love they're TJ's and YJ's need to ease up on people who bought the JK's. You all talk about keeping the wave tradition going but its kind of hard to when I read about how stock Jeeps dont desrve to be on the road. In fact, I never get a wave from ANY other Jeep other that the JK. Maybe some of us just cant go out and blow a few thousand $ on mods when we just paid between 24 to 30 K on a vehicle that drives like a dream as is!

The reason I finally bought one, first of all, is that I've wanted one for many years now. I'm probably never going to take it out and climb rocks, or cross streams, or even play in the mud (well, maybe play in the mud). My wife and I thought that a Jeep would be a blast to have so we can pull the top down throw our dogs in the back and take it out to the lake or just ride around town. Thats it! I love it because my wife has a grin from ear to ear when she drives it. I take my Jeep to the wash every week to get cleaned. It never looks dirty! I do the same however, to my Accord. Its an OCD thing and I've always been that way with EVERY vehicle I've owned. Now, if some people think less of me beacause I'm not aftermarketing the heck out of it and I don't deserve to be a Jeep owner, so be it. That would be a shame though because I'm actually a pretty nice guy who when out and about, truly does appreciate when a lifted, mod filled, winched, huge tire Jeep drives buy. Even if he shuns me.....

On behalf of WF I would like to apologize if you've felt offended by some of the comments here. People are people, no matter where you go. I think that you will find that WF is one of the more friendly Jeep forums around. Some of the others will flame you in a heartbeat just for asking a simple question. Most of us try to remember we were all new once and not everyone has to be a hard core wheeler to own a Jeep. There is plenty to enjoy about a Jeep as it is stock. The best advise I can give is try to disregard ignorance and look for the good stuff. But keep in mind, we joke around a lot here to, but it's all in good fun.

There ya go... there's always going to be someone who doesn't like what you do or how you do it. No getting around it. Just carry on in the manner that suits you, and let the ones with the problems worry about it for you.

Not saying you should or you shouldn't but just reminding you that there is an option to ignore posts by certain people. You know, if there are some who really get under your skin....

It's mostly just friendly banter back & forth & sometimes it is someone trying to get a rise out of another Jeeper.I am sure no one intentionally means to upset people, if that was the case I wouldn't be seen on here at all. Have brood shoulders & remember that typed msg's don't have expression so sometimes they aren't mean't to be affensive. Of course unless Gus has a go & then you know you are in trouble

You might also take a look at the number of posts that some of the offending members have. There are a lot of newer members who have come from other forums that are not quite as friendly. It sometimes takes a while for them to figure out that this is a non- judgemental forum. We all have a common bond. Whether you drive a cj, yj, tj or jk you will always see my hand in the air.

Like stated, we are generally a good bunch of people. We like to rib each other and make wise cracks about real Jeeps having leaf springs or gotta have round headlights. The members who truely hate on others only because they have their Jeep for a family vehicle don't really tend to stick around too long before they go to another forum because the feed off of the drama. For the most part, this forum is drama free.

I totally agree! I love modding my jeep, but a Jeep is a Jeep. all Jeeps are unique, we are all proud owners because they are ours! They are the way we want them to be, and we shouldn't judge each other's rigs. We could judge each other as people, but not dependent on our rigs! I do believe that there are some people out there that own Jeeps that are not team players in the Jeep community, and when I see one, I'm not afraid to say it. But, I will not judge them on their rig, it is the way they want it, we are individuals, and so are our JEEPS!!!!

Nuff said...

There's also a such thing as friendly rivalry and a sense of humor.. which I think is important for moral. Jeep people, by nature, are utilitarian minded and a little raw at times. A little good natured ribbing now and again between different models is healthy. Just like how the Marines and Army will "make fun" of each other when we all know they're on the same team when the lead starts to fly.

While this is, and should be a friendly and welcoming forum, there's also room for opinion and when you post things on here for public view, you're inviting opinion into your life.

I don't read hardly any of those posts as "hateful."

Some have a bit more "attitude" than others. Some are significantly less than helpful.

But you've joined a community, not a reference manual. So it's real people.

Some are sarcastic, which frequently does not come across in writing (guilty!). Some are a little rude, or overly blunt. Some are less funny than they think (hey, me again). Some drink and post. There are inside jokes (Chadwick!), and there's boredom with repeated questions (but you should still ask them, that's our fault, not yours).

Think how incredibly boring it would be if all you got was dry, straight information. I think we should all embrace the weirdness that you get in a group like this.

Now I need to run - I'm in a fight over on Jeepforum with some people that hate me now.

People

The responses you got logically, are from the JEEP OWNERS that are the ones that enjoy Jeeps, yours or mine, so listen to them, and enjoy your Jeep as they do theirs and disregard the rest. THEY know who they are, possibly they don't have a Jeep owners life, like we do... I usually read their comments, and enjoy the stupidity they are willing to put out there. ENJOY your JEEP, and please wave because one of US may be on the receiving end of it.... JEEP ON!!! Bob-

There is a ton of stuff floating around this forum. About 600 lbs of it ain't worth reading let alone replying to. Just shrug off the other stuff and enjoy yourself and your ride.

Everyone has their opinions and likes/dislikes.

AND, there are more than a few folks here that know each other fairly well and if you don't pick up on it, it won't read quite right.

For instance, Jeff (aka turdhurdler above in post #8) knows me and I know him. We've wheeled together a couple times and drank more that a few beers around the camp fire after some jeeping. I like him. Hell, I even forgive him for driving that square eyed, leaf sprung monstrosity he pretends to take on the trail!

you suck!!

some people are just passionate to, i don't post things like that. but a small part of me inside, has a dislike for the direction things go. its the same with everything. i'm passionate about jeep history.

i would never flame or bash anyone i don't know anything about. do i think it makes sense to buy a rubi to pound around the pavement? no, but so what. some people are younger to, and bash j/k's cuz no one waves. is this true? for the most part, j/k's may not wave. but the same is true everytime a new wrangler model comes out.

i remember when tj's were yuppy, and it was only guys in ties owning them, and no one waved, and the couple we saw on the trails had no clue what they were getting into, and were only worried about scratches, or getting the interior dirty. most people around here don't remember that, and i'm to young to be into it, when the same was true of yj's.

I understand this completely. I come from a military background and have little in the way of outward compassion other than for kids and animals.. I actually accidentally made my wife cry the first time we talked about politics when we were dating. I didn't mean to, and I had no clue I was being mean (and I probably wasn't being) but she thought I was too blunt and forward... We just all have different personalities and different opinions.. and I think it's okay to share them. Just as people have to be welcoming of others lifestyles etc. you also have to be welcoming of differing opinions of those things. It's a give take.

Im not a fan of the 4-door... just not my thing... but im also 22, single, and no kids or animals to bring around with me ( my tortoise doesnt like to go for rides... its a little loud for him) so the 4-door isnt aimed for me and my needs... that being said just because im not a fan of them doesnt make them less of a wrangler and i wave to all cj/wrangler Jeeps and always will and i will stop and assist any Jeep in any way if i can... Jeeps are very capable vehicles with or without mods which are why they are so wonderful... Keep on Jeeping on whatever surface you please... because you CAN

This happens with all groups, be it cars or motorcycles. I have just come from owning 2 Dodge R/T's. R/T's come with the HEMI engine. The other Dodge Magnums, and Chargers come with the smaller 2.7 and 3.5 engines. Making for an incomplete car, just a wanna be.

Back in the day of my youth there were Boss 428 Mustangs on the road. Mustangs with the smaller engines were just not considered to be the real thing.

When I ran the Harleys, we NEVER waved at someone on a rice burner. Even though they waved at us. Now I'm on my 3rd Honda GoldWing, eventhough I wave at people on Harleys, they don't wave back very often. The kicker is, the GoldWing I have now I paid about $15,000.00 to have it converted to a trike because of a bad left hip, and when I wave at people on GoldWings they don't return the wave because I'm on a trike. It's just a game people play with each other. I have noticed though that for instance if a guy or gal in a 4 door Wrangler was getting seriously hassled, the people would the 2 door Wranglers would stand beside that person and the other way around. It's a hassling we do to each other in fun. Tonight I waved at a couple who were in a 2 door Wrangler and we were in our 2006 Chrysler Pacifica with my inlaws enroute to a graduation. Must have messed with their minds a little. Like some of us in the world of motorcycles say "I don't care what you ride, as long as you ride." Everyone have a fun and safe weekend.

And I like my Jeep because the wife does not like to ride in it

Being a bit new to this forum myself, I have found it be similar to other forums for other interest groups in that there are always a few posters who like to rant about anyone else who doesn't conform to their particular preferences. Shrug it off, maybe laugh at their arrogance, and move on to the good stuff. Don't get sucked into their dysfunctional attitudes (don't feed the trolls, in other words). 99% of the information in this forum is helpful, if not invaluable. Ignore the one percenters.

Also, stick around for a year or so and really get to know the people here on the forum.....it's hard to read someone's personality over the internet when you've only been part of the family for 17 posts. Trust me, you'll learn to like a lot of people that come off as sarcastic or a pain in the @$$. We're a family. And just like any family we have our squabbles here and there, but in the end we're still family. So suck it up. Adapt and overcome.
