Car wash

I hardly ever take any of my vehicles to one of those automatic car washes, but after muddin the other day my TJ could use an under belly wash! Is it safe to take a soft top through those "touch free" gas station car washes?

yes, the soft top should be ok. But they won't get it all. If you want it clean under there, you'll need a pocket full of quarters and about an hour at the least.

Yeah, they may make it look nice but you got to make sure the mud is off the frame, lines, exhaust, shafts, brakes, inside the rims, gas tank sides & top, transfer case, inbetween the skid plates and the transfercase, shocks, engine bay, etc...

The last two times I took mine in some really deep shit I had to put it up on stands and it took me three hours with a pressure washer in the driveway to get all the small stones and crap out from various areas. But, I even had mud seaping in between the body panels...

And yes, Mud is worse than anything. Even worse than salt when it comes to rusting. Why? The mud holds moisture up against the metal and it takes 7-10 times longer to dry than salt does.

Just hook a good sprinkeler up and put it under your jeep in your driveway for about an hour. I move mine...start with it under the engine bay and finish in rear. Then take a hose amd spray out the flares and wheel wells. 90% done, any left should be soft and just need a shot from the hose since you've let it soak from the sprinkler.

Other than a lot of elbow grease, anything get those mud stains off of the fenders? I have to scrub the he** out of them with a brush to get the stains to come off.

Wait...so we're saying it's alright to take my softop TJ through a touchfree carwash? Unless I want to make an ice rink in my driveway there's no hand washing for me.
