CarFax Discount Through AAA

All,

I wanted to pass along something I learned tonight. If you are a AAA member you can purchased discounted CarFax records.

AAA Member Pricing:
1 CARFAX Report for $29.74
5 CARFAX Reports for $38.24

I am sure other discounts are out there, but this seems like better than full price!

Why do you say it is 90% worthless? I've never used it but have a granddaughter looking for a car and she got a carfax report on everything she looked at. Some showed nothing but normal service but a few showed body shop damage repair "over $500." It was good info for her and she didn't have to pay for it because her uncle was able to click it up at the dealership:

B/c it is by no means comprehensive. (they have no way to know about all the repairs that are done)...so it just gives you a false sense of security.

and fwiw 500.00 isn't a drop in a bucket as far as car repairs go...

They say they guarantee their services but they wouldn't give me a refund when I proved them wrong. (they missed significant repair on a vehicle I bought).

Basically they are as helpful as a pre-purchase home inspection from 90% of home inspectors (who at least in TX don't have to be licensed anythings....and who also have a clause in their contract that says if they miss anything its not their fault...) If you buy a house, pay an electrician, and HVAC tech, a plumber, and someone who knows about structural/foundation issues to look at the house. You'll have a much better idea of what's going on inside the house.

Same is true with a Car. Carfax misses TONS of things. Heck they said my Jeep was "clear" and I bought it knowing its been repainted....only qualifications I have is eyes...and lots of experience looking at body shops work. (I used to do suspension work and alignments for 1/2 the body shops in town).

I registered here simply to respond to this year-old thread, lol. While I agree that a $500 repair is nothing to worry about, (though he did say over $500, hinting to the possibility of something extensive), Carfax isn't worthless.. some people may simple like to know a little history on a vehicle before purchase, as in where it came from, been registered, odometer readings etc. I realize this may not be as telling about a something with a high probability of having been used for off-road purposes, but for the average road-going example, it can be good to know. Also, the general public doesn't have your extensive knowledge in auto-repair. They can also be somewhat useful if buying a vehicle long-distance. I'm not saying Carfax should be relied upon solely, but would not go so far as to call it a worthless service. Unfortunately I don't have AAA or similar, but am disabled, so may in the future. Thanks for the heads-up AirborneCav.

EDIT - I found this after Googling Carfax discount

EDIT: realized the date after

But anyways....

I went through some rough times and my jeep got towed along with a license suspension. Well a dealer did a carfax on my jeep for trade in. The date it got towed it shows an accident reported ????? I also used it without the discount and it was the same price.
Carfax leaves out important stuff, I don't care for them.

Odd.. I've had plenty of cars towed, (multiple times), and none of them ever resulted in such. Sounds like the towtruck company/somebody filed paperwork wrong, though for the record I wasn't stating Carfax as "god" regarding a vehicles history.. simply that it can be useful.

Oh, and how'd you miss the date, I started off by stating I'd grave-dug a year old thread.

Hi I m a AAA plus member, I just paid $26.99 for 5 reports (Reg price $44.99 - 40% OFF), after I logged in, I found 2 links with carfax discount

Premier member link

I m not sure if this will work for you, seems like they verified my account before they link me to carFax.com. Well.. it doesn't hurt to try. Good luck.
