cat, or no cat????

so i have been playin in the mud holes recently and i'd say about 4 or 5 times my jeep has decided to stall while window deep in mud water. now 2 out of the 4 or 5 times the jeep had no muffler on it ( was ripped off after the second time) now
i just did a tune up because the jeep was running rather crappy. the only thing i can think of is the catalytic converter is all clogged up, can i just take it off or will the low back pressure be bad on the engine, i already have a little blow by on my crankcase vent but it doesn't really burn much oil, its a 4.0 with an intake ( homemade tube) and stock exhaust system, although it has a cracked manifold and 2 leaks in the tubes. so whats the verdict can i take it off, gut it or what, i don't care about emissions laws or anything like that so whats up?

if you don't have to worry about emissions it can go. not needed, won't hurt.

well i mean the rest of the vehicle isn't gonna pass, and i got a guy anyways, so i'll just keep cheating... but do you think this will solve my problem? i cna't think of what else it could be, i just changed plugs, wires, cap, button, all taht jazz, and just cleaned the filter, i am going to do a compression test this weekend. we will see. any suggestions, the symptoms are ruff idle, lack of power, hesitates under quick throttle, on the interstate at higher rpm i noticed intermittent power, like i would get on the throttle then it would stutter a second and act limp then jsut blow open.

ya, possibly that. you can try cleaning it and the throttle body first. works half the time, just carbon build up in throttle body and valve cause it.
