CEL Code P0161, some help needed!

Hey all,
So for the past few months, my check engine light has been on. I had attributed it to a loose gas cap as I had problems with that in the past, but the other day I was browsing the forums and came across a thread containing the ignition "on-off-on-off-on" trick to get the CEL code to display. I tried it, and received a code of P 0161.
Some mild google browsing told me that this is an issue with an o2 sensor (one of multiple, I hear). Being as mechanically inexperienced as I am, I am not sure how serious this is, or how to replace it.
Also, I am planning a ~1000 mile trip this weekend. Provided that I can't get this fixed, should I consider not going?
Thanks alot guys, I really appreciate the help!
-Craig
