Cheap and decent winch

M looking for a which for my jeep. It doesn't have to be Warn quality as I would rarely use it. I don't go off-roading that often, maybe 1-2 every 2 months. I mostly want a show piece (don't hate me) what's out there?

Craigslist... Maybe I'll get lucky and find something of good quality. Or just go to Harbor freight and buy one of their's... Doesn't matter how many times you wheel in a week a day or a month when you need a winch you really NEED a winch!

Look at Quadratech. Their line of winches seems to be decent quality and quite a bit cheaper than a Warn.

Can't argue with that.

Just used mine yesterday to winch some fallen over trees out of the way of the trail.

Check out the ENGO winches, like mine so far and I use it like you have in mind.

Superwinch has the Tiger Shark 9500's now. I think you can pick them up for $250.00 with a coupon to Northern Tool.

Is there any difference between "Northern Tool" and "Harbor Freight?" I always thought they were the same. Either way, go for the coupon book (usually in racks outside the store.) The 12,000 lb winch right now is $299. Or course, you can't really pull 12,000 lb with the stock battery in a jeep, (And it only has 5% duty cycle at that load.) But you usually won't ever have to. I went with that one because it has the cable tensioner to keep the cable neatly wound. So far. (Only did one test pull so far.) My old one was always a mess.

A Barricade Winch might be a good option for you because they're less expensive but will still for you when you're off road and need a winch. Let me know what questions you have about that winch or if you'd like a quote!

Love my recon 10500 lb... I think just under $500 from truck and winch. They also sell them on eBay. I got the package with a cover, tree saver, and a pulley for just over $500

I think I paid a little over 400 bucks for my Warn VR series winch.. I believe its considered their "value" line. But I figured for a starter winch you can't go wrong with the big red W..

Smittybuilt has a waterproof winch with a lifetime mechanical warranty. Seems reasonably priced too.
