Cheap snatch strap?? Figured I'd share

ALRIGHT.... before I get bashed for posting this, and have people say you get what you pay for, I figured I'd share this link. I do a lot of projects with stuff from army surplus stores. I found this snatch strap that sells for 25cents per foot. Claims it's military issued stuff so I would imagine it would be SOMEWHAT strong. At that price, I suppose if it broke, it wouldnt be a biggie. Anywho, here it is.

Nylon Tow Strap By the Foot

Freakin cool stuff on this website.

A neighbor of mine has something very similar to this. In fact he used it to tow me and my Jeep to my mechanic when my cam sensor/oil drive gear assembly blew up on me. Not a single time did the Jeep jerk when the slack was suddenly taken up. Was pretty supprised. I figured it would snap more than a few times but it never did. I wouldn't mind getting some of this to have for just-in-case

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe have 20 feet or so of this coiled up that I could keep in my jeep year round without worrying about theft, then maybe a higher end snatch strap for the winter months when I go out and look for stuck vehicles

Very cool stuff. I have 25ft snatch strap I haven't gotten to use yet but it was ALOT more than $0.25/ft!

Kinda Leary though. Doesn't even give any type of weight limit or breaking point info. But I guess at. 25/ft it wouldn't be bad, until you really need it to pull through and then find out what the snapping point is.

Keep in mind there is a big difference between snatch strap and tow strap. This stuff will stretch a bit to absorb the shock of taking up slack; it will not provide the sort of kinetic recovery you achieve by getting a 20mph lead on a good snatch strap.

good point. the snatch part was a screwup on my part. But heck, I suppose you could use that stuff for a lot more other than pulling out vehicles. If you guys get a chance, check out the mortar boxes on that site. I just bought one and I'm going to make a nice little storage trunk for my jeep.

It may be a snatch strap. According to the info on the link, it does say it will stretch...but it's still listed as a tow strap.

My nylon tow strap (and most others) say they will stretch to absorb shock, but the effect is minimal. They still call it a tow strap so they don't have to field the angry calls from people who damaged vehicles trying to use it as a snatch strap. I guarantee you no legitimate business can afford to sell ballistic weave snatch strap for $.25/ft.

While we're on the subject. What kind of snatch straps do you guys use? What rating? I notice qtec has lots of choices. Especially when it comes to all the different ratings.
