Cheaper insurance on 2012 Jeep than a 2005 VW Jetta???

Since buying my 2012 Jeep I switched my insurance "Daily Driver" vehicle from our 2005 VW Jetta TDI to my Jeep. Since the Jeep is newer and more expensive I expected the insurance to go UP. It went DOWN by $6 a quarter.

Ah the mysterious world of insurance underwriters...

Just some added info most insurances rate any VW Jetta, Golf, or Rabbit a sports type rating so the rates are higher on it then some newer vehicles. Also some states list Wranglers as a SUV or a sport vehicle, which the later also ups the insurance rates.

Nice looking jeep and I love the color.

I expected my insurance to go up as well when I replaced my Ford Edge with my Jeep, but it also went down $32/6 months. Just another perk of driving a Jeep!

And which one would you rather be in if you have an accident?

Me I'll take a Jeep over an econo box any day.

Funny, PA law was a Jeep was registered as a truck if it didn't have the back seat in.
Seat installed, it was registered as a station wagon.

Trucks paid higher registration and insurance then a station wagon did.

Actually the Jetta has far better crash rating than the Jeep as well as full side curtain airbags, so... in a crash I'd rather be in the Jetta.

One thing that plays into insurance rates is how much damage your vehicle would have if involved in an accident. I slid on wet roads when traffic stopped fast and caught the rear end of a Honda Civic years ago. The Civic needed a tail light, quarter panel, bumper, absorber and rienforcement. My Jeep need a couple hits of the sledgehammer to the end of the front bumper.

Recently I had a Prius not see me in the lane next to it. They came over into my front driver tire. I had a rub mark on my tire. They needed a fender and a door.

I had an 04 rubicon with an arb bullbar.. had a lady back up into me on the interstate..(she missed her exit)..anyway took out the back 1/4 part of her Ford explorer. Jeep left a huge imprint in it.
Jeep damage= a small scratch on the bull bar.. the cop wondered where the 2nd vehicle was..LOL. my insurance company wanted to see regardless of no damage cause they couldn't believe it!!

My insurance dropped by about 150 a year after I sold my 05 Pontiac Grand Prix and picked up my 12' JK. I'm definitely not complaining.

My 2012 Wrangler is $450 less per year than my 2007 BMW.
