Colors

I have a decision to make and i wanna know what you guys would do. Were about to start reassembling my stroker and were gonna be painting it. Its kinda like a lime green.ill try to get a pic up. my question is since im painting the jeep as well should i pain it olive drab like i was originally going to do.OR should i paint it flat black and then do the rollcage front stinger and rear bumper the same color as the engine along with a few other doo dads..... What do you guys think.

Personally, if I were gonna do a flat color, I'd do haze grey, w/ all the accents in flat black, but that's just me! Of the 2 options you mentioned, I'd go OD.

If you are going for a military look, you should avoid anything shiny! Are you thinking camo or just OD?

See, I'd do that, but I'd steer clear of that lime green engine thing, unless you are going for a MOPAR muscle car look, you seem to have conflicting themes going on here...

W/ OD exterior? I'd pass. If you want the High Impact colors, go all out and do the whole thing in Plum Crazy, (only original HI color I can think of OTTOMH) or some other original MOPAR muscle car color, it'd be tuff, have some heritage, (even if it is a bastard child) and you sure wouldn't see the same Jeep every time you go for a drive!

No better engine color than Hemi Orange. Would look kick ass with either the OD or the flat black.

Chrysler Blue (1973-1976) was always a sweet motor color. Hemi orange(1968-1972) is sweet too though. Flat Black looks good. Now I cant decide either. Its giving me ideas though.

I believe that a black engine runs cooler. I can't remember if I read that somewhere or what. Something to consider with a beast like that under the hood.

The exterior has to be OD. It is the only real option in my opinion.

I had heard that as well, but check out this article.

A white organic pigmented paint is best because it has both high emissivity and high reflectance.

Painting engines black is more effective as a sales tool than it is at cooling an engine. However, the concept of regulating temperature within an engine compartment by controlling radiant energy can be both effective, and, easily and inexpensively applied.

I seem to remember that the reason the police and nascar went to all black wheels was to dissipate heat more eficiently. Lev, that article seems to contradict this though. IDK

My favorite color of vehicle is a deep amethyst...a very deep purple. My 1998 Dodge Ram p/u was that color and I loved it. I had lots of comments on it too.

VW and Porsche air cooled engines should be painted flat black as well as the fan shroud/housing, it is true that it dissipates heat better but I don't know if that makes much of a difference on a water cooled one.
I had a chrome fan housing on my 58VW dune buggy and it ran hot, replaced it with a factory oem one in flat black and the head and jug temps dropped almost 20 degrees.

I hate to admit it, but I once had a truck that color, couldn't get rid of it quick enough, it always seemed to look purple to me, and the wife loves to remind me of it, even though she was the one who found that particular truck...

ya I get a ton of shit for having that color from my close buds. when I bought it, it was dark though and it looked like a dark blue or black but for 5k and with only 79K on it I wasn't gonna complain about the color. the color has grown on me over the past few months, and it stands out around here cause there is only one rig that has that color...MINE! I get complemented on my rig all the time by beautiful women (even had one get out of her friends car and jump into my rig at a stoplight one day) but If you look at some other rigs that are built (for example, PSC's rigs) they have some pretty wild colors that you wouldn't expect on a built rig. I can only hope to have mine look like theirs one day...

Mine was kind of the same thing, low mile, stick shift v6 dakota, I was commuting 100+ miles 6 days a week, so the mileage was nice, and the dealer had been sitting on it for almost 6 months, so it was time for it to go, I got it dirt cheap, drove it for about a year, traded it on a V-8 Club Cab when I was working back closer to home, then wound up right back in the same old commute, lovely!
