comanche questions

hey, i know this is all about wranglers, and ive been on here maybe twice, cause i sold my jeep long ago, but im looking at a comanche, that i believe is a 2.5, it could be a 4.0 the owner hasnt gotten back to me yet, however it could be 4x4, it could be 2wd, in which case im not interested, again, say it is a 2.5 4x4 would the manual out of an XJ cherokee 4.0 work in this truck? would the bellhousing bolt up? because i have a trans out of a 4x4 xj 4.0 thats the same year. the truck is an 88 the trans is out of an 87. also, how hard is it to swap out the engine/trans, if it is a 2.5, because i have a 4.0 swap i could buy for 350, engine, trans, harness the whole deal. is there alot of rewiring? or is it pretty straightforward because i know i can pull the engine, trans and all that, just need to know if theres anything to look out for. thanks!

Welcome. The General info forum is a great to place to talk Jeeps of ALL kinds. That said, I find that the information about non-Wrangler Jeeps may be lacking in some cases. There is a CJ section here (I have a CJ also), but not many people go there. Even though this is by far the friendliest Wrangler site on the web (IMO, anyway), there are better places for good tech info on non-Wrangler rigs (again, my opinion only). There is a full-sized Jeep forum out there that might be more helpful to you. I can't remember the URL just now.
