Crd

Came into work this morning to see about 150+ Jeeps sitting at my work (GM side), 30+ were wranglers. Most say CRD on the back. I assume this is the common rail deisel. I saw a Rubicon with the crd and fell in love. When do we get a 4:1 diesel here? these were all going to canada, austrailia etc.

We will get the CRD back here when the emmissions are easier/cheaper to pass. They are planning a Grand Cherokee with a version of the CRD in 2009, but were not planning on doing it in the Liberty again. Would be pretty kewl to see in the new JK's though... Maybe when '09 gets closer we will start hearing rumors.

i drove the 2.8 CRD amnd the 3.8 V6.
the CRD is much more powerful and has much more torque at lower RPMs.
if i would buy a JK it would be the CRD...

the word "cherokee" can´t be used anymore by jeep in the US because of some trouble with the copyright...
the cherokee never had the name liberty here in europe.

take a look at the german http://jeep.de/ site. if you click on cherokee you´ll find your liberty.

btw. here you´ll find some specifications (in german) of the CRD engine.

Are sure that it isn't the other way around? That the word "Liberty" can't be used in Europe, but Cherokee can? They had that same problem in Canada with the Wrangler until last year. The word "Wrangler" was copyrighted by Wrangler Jeans so they were just called the Jeep TJ.

Jeeperman is right on about the CRD motors. Starting in 2007 all diesel engines have to use Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. That's the holdup. The export CRD engines use regular diesel and won't pass the new emission standards.

Right, the import thing isnt my style, but if Jeep is going to have a "Car" might as well make it a good rallye car. I got no problems making that little toy into a turbo awd rallye car
