Dead Mice in my Hardtop....HELP!!!

Help!! I have a 2009 4 door Wrangler Unlimited and I put my hartop back on my Jeep last weekend and got into it monday morning for work to the smell of death, it is nauseating. The mice got in thru the openings in the top back where the wiring and window washer lines run and apparantly built a nest(s).

The openings are tiny and not sure how to get in there to clean out the rotting carcasses and deodorize it.

Anyone been thru this and have any advice?

Thin wire may reach the carcasses if I can locate them but it still nneds to be disinfected/deodorized/flushed with bleach or something.

not sure what you mean by "vents". Where are the vents?

Try to flush it out with a water hose. A product called Odormute should work for the smell. You can get it at Amazon.

The mice died inside the hardtop. If I try to flush it with water/bleach there is nowhere that it can drain from. It will stay in the bottom of the hardtop with the dead critters.

Drilling seems to be the only solution if you ask me.
I have had mice in several cars.....in the trunk.....glove compartments.....etc.
It's a pain!
Solution: park in a garage.

That is what I was hoping/thinking. But how long?

If it was summer I could leave windows open all the time but with winter coming and the windows closed and the heat on.........

Call your insurance agent!

It's a good possibility that they will either replace the top or have the mice removed for you.
It would certainly be a comp claim, which doesn't raise rates.

Murderers! Those poor mice deserved to have adequate housing and you removed their home and killed them!

It takes about a week or 2 for the smell to go away, but you're still left with the knowledge that you have the bodies of the murdered mice in your hardtop. You can try using a shop vac on the vents while shaking the top to dislodge their tiny little bodies from the cavities in your hard top.

Try Oder Ban it comes in a spray bottle, and put peppermint oil in the places that mice can get in, they don't like the smell of it and won't go there. I have many classic cars and it works for me.

just be thankful they didn't nest in your heater. that smells awesome and every time you turn the heater on you get a nice blowing of dirt and grass chunks and a beautiful smell. i say throw the soft top on for a few weeks and let them rot until they dont smell anymore. try plugging up the holes where they got in with some expanding foam or stuff steel wool in it. good luck.

Oh well you shouldn't have anything to worry about then, yours is probably stuffed full of little skeletons that quit stinking a long time ago....

Talking

Thanks to Jeep6866 for the solution. I took the top off drilled 1 1/4 inch hole in the bottom where the top sits on the jeep and flushed the thing out with water. I couldnt believe how much stuff came out. About 5 dead mice, nests, and a ton of brown nastyous! aweful. Jeep is 95% better. I'm going to flush it out again this weekend with a bleach water mixture to freshen it up. Thank you so much for the advice. I will not store my hardtop outside under my deck ever again.

Take my advice and pack your soft top in a sealed tub. Mine got destroyed by mice.

I haven't seen that done in ages We would get them big time when I was a kid and my Grandmother would "christmas" all the closets every spring. It really does work.

I nominate that guy for best first post ever... any votes?

Mine is in the factory shipping boot, in a closet, in the house for the winter.
