I would never want the hassle and reliability issues of a diesel engine. Yeah, they last a while but they make expensive trips to the shop. If I pulled something really heavy, I may get a diesel truck. A Jeep- you could not sell me one with a diesel engine. I have friends with diesel VWs and diesel trucks and when they hit the shop, they are insanely expensive.
