Do It Your Self Paint Job w/ Durabak

So I bought my first Jeep a few months ago, a 93 Jeep Wrangler, and I love it. The only thing i dont like about it is the awful paint job. I have herd of a few guys painting the out side of there jeep with truck bed liner and i was thinking about doing it. I read about a few different paints, and I like Durabak. If anyone knows of another kind of paint that they like better or think would work better on the out side please let me know. Also how many gallons would it take to paint the out side of the Jeep? (The inside doesnt need any paint)

I am in the same boat as you i got a 95 with a crappy looking paint job and am going to paint it myself over the summer. Right now its a forest green and the driverside fender, grill, and hood have a deeper shade to it. Im going to paint it a green thats a little lighter then stock with duplicolor paint. They make a great product.

Automotive paint takes one gallon. Not sure on truck bed liner. Getting ready to paint my truck as a matter of fact.

Did mine inside and out using a Schutz gun, took two gallons, looks great, two winters old now. I'd do it again in a heartbeat expecially now that there are so many color choices.

Durabak paint for exterior of YJ

I have a 91 YJ which is red and needs to be redone. I also like the Durabak company as they have textured and smooth UV paint. I was thinking the Bright Red smooth UV exterior and Black for the trim, interior Dark Gray textured for the floors and Red smooth for the sides. Has anyone rolled on the paint yet? exterior??

Ha.. i also have a 91 yj and guess what.. it's also red!! :highfive:,, anyways.. i have been wanting to do the same.. but i kinda wanna go with the gray on the whole thing.. except the fenders.. when i get the chance in gonna go around the whole frame and body and weld up the casual jeep rust .. I'll probably just coat the inside first.. I'll make a thread when i start the process. I can't wait.. I've only had my jeep for about a month.. i have so much stuff planned for it.. that's the glory of having a jeep.. you can do ANYTHING to them!!

I too have had my jeep for a month! Highfive back. Hopefully I will start my paint process this month and will take photos upload. I do agree. Being handy and having an older jeep is a great combo.

Ditto on the being handy and having an older jeep. I'm handy alright..i just need some tools.. the first thing I'll probably buy is one of those huge tool sets.. i mean.. you can go to home depot or any place like that and get parts for your jeep.. you just have to have an idea if what it is and you really never have to get anything special.
