do you think its totaled?

So a Guy ran a redlight and I had no time to stop, I tboned him and then went directly into a light pole. I first hit him doing roughly 35 then into the pole at about 25 to 30. Crazy thing is, is that my airbags never deployed..It hasn't been appraised yet, but based off of your experiences would you say its totaled? BTW it looks significantly worse in person, and has more damage than what's visable, and its an 07 unlimited x.

Well, everything is bent all the back to maybe an inch in front of the front axle. The bumper is caved in the center over a foot deep. As far as the engine bay goes, the radiator is done for, however I couldn't get the Hood open, but I peaked and noticed that the fuse box was unseated as well as other pieces.

I would say totaled just because there is a cross member of the frame at the base of the bumper and it looks like it would be bent and if u say it looks worse in person. And it also looks like its all caved in on the motor

Really thankful you were hurt in this. I'm also assuming the other guy isn't as well? This is particularly difficult for me to see and good at the same time. Yesterday I did the same thing for the first time in my life. I went right through a red light and almost t-boned a small sedan. I was talking to my daughter who was in the back seat of the jeep and we were on the way to get a new set of MT tires. I was to excited and just happy all morning that I didn't see the light. Thank God angles were around us and the other driver who because he stopped in time after checking to see if it was clear stopped and we went right through in front of him.

I would certainly follow up on the "front air bags not deploying". It may have been speed related as I believe they won't deploy under a certain speed as to not injure the passengers for some reason.

The cross member behind the bumper I can confirm is significantly bent, and thanks ESP. Other than some neck x rays and soreness I'm OK. As for the focus driver.. his car was like a crushed can and he was taken in an ambulance. Also my sister is an ex mechanical engineer for Chrysler so she's contacted them to get me some answers, so depending the answer ill take it from there, and it better be a good answer.

Good to hear that your ok. From what you said and from the picture I would say it's totaled.
When you get your next jeep get a stronger front bumper. That one folded like paper .And I say this not to be funny.

First glad you're ok! Wow no air bag?? that's not good, given the amount of damage the air bags should have gone off, IMHO...espically given the 2 hits. The onboard computer might have some info. Keep us posted how things work out.

Indeed it did... but... its possible that is all by design. Some of these crumple things are designed to give to some extent to protect the person inside. Sometimes you want some give in the equation. It could be the key to his survival and the fact the airbags did not deploy. Airbags deploying can sometimes do even more damage to the operator.

Whether or not it is totalled is going to be up to the insurance companies involved, unfortunately. I got in a wreck once, where the insurance company decided to spend more money on fixing the car than it was worth. Needless to say, I sold that one as soon as I could.

Wow... Really glad to hear you are OK. I hope the other driver turns out OK too.

I would be all over Chrysler for the airbagas not deploying. Looking at the damage I'm guessing your Jeep is totaled, but your insurance will probably make the final determination.

What type of aftermarket bumper did you have on the front? Looks like it absorbed a lot of the energy of the accident by folding like it did.

Thank god for angles watching over us; it's really square of him sending them for protection.

Sorry, had to.

Sorry to hear, but man that definitely looks bad enough that the bags should have deployed. I'd definitely look into that issue deeper. It would make sense that it would take a bit more to make them go off in a vehicle that's designed to take a bit more of a beating than say a Toyota Corolla as far as off roading goes, but at 25-30 mph, that could potentially cause some serious harm. If you wouldn't have been wearing your seat belt and those bags didn't deploy, you probably would have been getting a new grill for your face along with the replacement for the jeep.

I'm leaning more towards TOTALED, but it is difficult to say. The frame rails are certainly bent inwards near the front since the front crossmember is collapsed inward.

Are the motor mounts broken?

frame rails can be straitened. that front clip can be replaced, Crossmember can be replaced. But it looks like the engine may have taken some of the impact... or the front axle did. How does the axle look? are the links all okay?

Front axle housing, links, steering, etc can all be replaced. But if all that stuff (motor, frame, axle, steering, body work, etc) exceeds a certain percentage value of the jeep then don't they consider it totaled? I mean anything is fixable, but if it costs the insurance co more than it would to replace it completely then it is totaled.

So a tough call

Hard to tell just looking at sheet metal. Sometimes, if the frame is bent, it is better for them to total it unless you got some real good guys working on it. That part is the crap shoot, sometimes it comes back better than new, sometimes it becomes the headache you cant get rid of. Important thing is that YOU are ok, insurance can't replace that.

Sooooooooo glad U R OK!

Take it from me, the "neck", could give U some real problems down the road! So, get LEGAL advice before setteling with the insurance Company!

This seems to be yet another example of the strength in Jeeps involved in MVA's (imagine if U were in a Prius )

Thank God angles were around us
Poor Matt, shunned by Pythagoras.

Seriously, be happy the injuries weren't worse. And GL with your insurance.

Can't say I am too sure about the blessed part; my idea of divine intervention would be for the accident to have been avoided.

yikes! glad you're alive and walking! I'm no insurance claims adjuster, but I'd lean towards TOTALED.

Thank you all for your answers and concerns, just to answer a few questions and to follow up, the bumper was actually homemade by me and a friend.. also, insurance did end up totaling it. Ill be hearing back tomorrow to Find out how much ill be getting back. As far as the airbags go, its looking like ill most likely be getting a lawyer and going after possibly a few different people, such as the dealer, possibly Chrysler and the idiot who ran the light and caused this headache. Hopefully something good comes out of this..
