Double check me on this MJ axle ID

To my untrained eyes this appears to be a D44....however to me it also doesn't quite look like the D44's I'm used to seeing

What you're looking under is a 4x2 89 Jeep MJ long bed with a 4.0 and a BA10-5 I traded an astro van for. I'm debating fixing and selling vs parting out. If this a d44 it would be too valuable to me underneath my 91yj to let go.

speculation as to the ratio would also be welcome

i dunno, here's the d44 in my mj. that looks like it might be a 35, or a chrysler 8 1/4 with that flat bottom

Now that's interesting, I wonder at the difference.

However the D30 and 8.25" do not have the flat sides on the diff cover as the one I picture

definately better than an astro van. i love mj's. my 87 yj had a non c clip d35 under it, the cover looks a little different than the later d35's. it definately doesn't have the d shape the d44 has, and the flat bottom makes me think less then d44.

from a quick search i think only the d35 or d44 went in the mj. its not a d44. i doubt someone swapped something in, so i'd say d35. the sides aren't completely round, but like i said, my late 80s d35 looked a little different.
